New WWE World Heavyweight Champion
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament came to a finality at Survivor Series. After a solid match between Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens, Dean would face his former partner in crime. Roman Reigns and Alberto Del Rio kicked off the night to an above-average match with a predictable outcome.
When the smoked cleared and the pin was made, Roman Reigns became the new world champion. He pinned Ambrose after a nice spear that seemed to break Dean in half. The celebration would not last long, as Triple H came down and tried to buddy up with Roman. He attacked Triple H, but got his head kicked off by Sheamus. Sheamus cashed in his briefcase and hit another Brogue Kick to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
I have been going back and forth about this ending for 14 hours now. Thinking about the ending frustrates me because Roman Reigns needed to be the champion. He has been screwed over so much recently. This was similar to Triple H screwing Daniel Bryan, which made him even hotter. That was their mind set. The problem? Even close to where he went to college, Reigns did not have a cheerful crowd in Atlanta back him. Shouldn’t this tell you something about his booking? You can only force someone down our throats until he comes back looking like vomit. So, instead of him losing to Sheamus, he should have sided with Triple H and became a new character.
That is one side to it. The other is the HUGE push Sheamus gets. I would have easily enjoyed this more if he was not in a match earlier in the night. Yes, not many people care because he is the champion now, but it devalues how dominant of a contender he could have been over the past 4 months. If he did not cash in tonight, when would he have? If they want to go all the way with Sheamus. Clean up the stupid beard and make him look like he belongs in The Authority. He may be one of the last true heels, one that actually gets people upset that he is champion. Ironic how much the times have changed. It is hard to grade this. Would Roman as a face champion make everyone happier? No. So, why are fans complaining? Sheamus is actually a really good performer, but his development and consistency has lacked. Maybe, just maybe, that is why.
