Last Thursday, Seth Rollins tore his ACL/MCL/medial meniscus during a live event in Dublin, Ireland. The injury is going to take him out of action for 6-9 months which has forced WWE to act by announcing that at Survivor Series; there will be a tournament to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
First off, I would like to wish Seth Rollins a speedy recovery as any injury is no fun, especially something so serious. Seth has been on a roll this year and has been WWE’s most consistent performer in the main event. It’s a shame that not only is he injured, his chances of performing at WrestleMania 32 have taken a huge blow.
WWE has been quick to act and I think they were smart to book a tournament a couple of weeks down the line to give themselves chance to re-think what they do going forward. Rumours suggested that Roman Reigns was planned to be crowned Champion at Survivor Series prior to Seth’s injury and this might still be the plan. However, there are plenty of options on the table now.
This week on IWC Radio, we had a good chat about the possibilities moving forward and I have one in particular which I would like to see. I would love to see Dean Ambrose crowned as Champion. You can’t help but think back to a similar situation in Survivor Series 1998 where they had the ‘Deadly Game’ tournament for the vacant championship.
