Problems I Have With Current WWE Divas Booking Situation

wwe divasI write a wrestling column every Monday and Friday for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Today’s is about the current WWE Divas booking situation. Here’s an excerpt:

The Divas division was Christmas in August.

Hard for me to speak honestly about it without sounding like a spoiled kid, though. We wanted better presentation for the Divas. We wanted more time for matches. We wanted meaningful stories. We wanted better quality of talent showcased. We had #GiveDivasAChance trending and forcing WWE management to acknowledge it.

After all that, our present finally came. WWE launched what was referred to as the “Divas revolution.” Some of the top female names in NXT made their anticipated debuts on RAW and got in the mix with the top polarizing names already such as The Bella Twins.

We got our new toy, and I’m mad the toy isn’t what I thought it would be. I see the talent that is right in front of me and know the programming should be better.

The “revolution” has resembled scenes from the “Anchorman” movies, where the news channel teams meet up and engage in ridiculous parody battles with each other. Every match on RAW was this team of three Divas versus this team of three, and then next week it is these two versus these two. I understand having declared there are now three factions you want establish, but I feel it has all lost control. That’s nine characters, three of which are new to RAW and SmackDown in this movement that need to be shown. Too much.

The “revolution” took another wrong turn as Paige turns on Charlotte and Becky Lynch. I thought this was a good move to start to break up the factions and let the division be individuals going after the title. This has been a confusing cluster for me.

Paige has still teamed with Charlotte and Becky for a few more weeks, playing up the sarcasm and questions of trust. Then, she just attacked them again this past week.
