I have a wrestling column every Monday and Friday for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The latest column I’m addressing the rumors and reports of the next possible challenger for Brock Lesnar.
The following is an excerpt:
F4Wonline.com is reporting Big Show is expected to be the next challenger for Brock Lesnar and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Yeah, it’s about that time.
We’re due for a random push of Big Show in the main event about once a calendar year. Last year, it was in November when he was the top contender for Randy Orton’s title and was using Daniel Bryan’s Yes chant to get over.
Big Show is a great guy. He debuted with WCW, but became a WWE company guy after signing in early 1999. He knows how to represent the company, interact with fans and understands wrestling politics. He’s very athletic for a guy of his size and is a sight to see in person.
Unfortunately, the only people probably excited about news of Big Show being back in the main event are the same people who post the cheesy tweets that scroll the bottom of the screen during Monday Night RAW.
Well, those people and me. There is a bright spot to this which I’ll address in a moment. But there are certainly enough reasons to roll your eyes at the thought of Big Show once again being thrust into the top of the card.
Big Show has been exposed too many times to forget. His size is no longer the threat it once was or should have been. We’ve seen him cry, and we’ve seen him be funny. The days of a guy who once got pushed off the top of a building after a monster truck battle with Hulk Hogan in 1994 are long gone.
However, Big Show challenging Lesnar does provide some good news and a good challenge which sits in front of WWE.
