In some very interesting news, the “in his own words” section of Daniel Puder’s website, which appears to feature a very unique writing style, does not feature Puder’s own words at all.
A sample essay on EssayEdge.com (http://www.essayedge.com/college/essayadvice/samples/cgi-bin/view.cgi – search for keyword 57), which was written by an NYU applicant, features the exact same text and concept. Puder changed some of the “experiences” for his own resume, but anyone who compares the two works will immediately view Puder’s biography as plagiarism.
One PWInsider reader claims that he read the sample essay in 2000, seemingly indicating that Puder did indeed lift the writing and not vice versa. In Puder’s defense, the essay has been frequently plagiarized, as a joke, for personal websites and ads, due to its comical and unique nature. Thus, it is extremely unlikely that Puder will be held liable for plagiarism, although the website still is misleading in claiming it represents Puder’s “own words.”
