What happens when you mix the two together? NWA-Anarchy!
– Welcome to NWA Anarchy, this is PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING~! John Johnson’s extended vacation continues to mystify Greg Hunter and the NWA Arena faithful. The ongoing rumor is that Johnson is fulfilling his wildest fantasies in a faraway land with his just inherited band of concubines. Last week on NWA Anarchy TV, Adrian Hawkins advanced to the semifinals of Young Lions #1 Contender tournament, referee Wes Grissom suffered the wrath of Kimo after attempting to prevent an assault on Ace Rockwell, Jerry Palmer subsequently suspended Kimo for 30 days, and the New Wave successfully defended the NWA Anarchy Tag Team Titles against the Dynamic Duo via disqualification after Jeremy Vain & Mr. Rob Adonis assaulted the champs. This week, the Young Lions tournament continues, a major announcement by Shadow Jackson, and the Devil’s Rejects interject themselves on this week’s main event.
1. “Bald Like Todd Sexton” Hayden Young pinned “Do or Die” Chip Day to advance to semifinals of the Young Lions #1 Contender’s Tournament.
Young sure is sporting a great outlook on professional wrestling: modeling a bald look a la Todd Sexton. Hayden makes Day his personal pregnant dog for several minutes. In the end, Young counters Day’s comeback by dropkicking him into the turnbuckle, executing a snap driver and making sure Day dies with the Flying Squirrel.
2. The Technicians (Bob E Hill & Tyler Smith) vs. the Wild Bunch (“Brokeback” Billy Buck & Chris King) was ruled a no contest.
You would have sworn that the first lesson Todd Sexton taught the Technicians was to never turn your back on the opponents. Apparently they didn’t learn their lessons because the Wild Bunch launch a Pearl Harbor assault their adversaries and manhandle them. The locker rooms empties with referees heading out to break up the brawl. King and Smith brawl while Buck and Hill battle each other. Bill Behrens heads out to separate the teams as the fans command more action. Behrens orders the Technicians to the back after the referee rules the match a no contest. What a good way to give the fans enough taste to make them want more.
3. Slim J pinned JT Talent w/Andrew Pendleton III to retain Young Lion’s Title.
Why is there a #1 contender underway if Slim if already defending the Young Lion’s Title? This doesn’t make sense, but aside from this, it’s nice to see Talent get pushed into the spotlight. Slim spends the opening moments by dominating Talent with a barrage of kicks and submissions early on. Fortunes turn for worse for Slim when Talent snake eyes him. The Bleacher Bums vocally approve of Talent by giving him their Stamp of Approval™. The crowd exchanges dueling chants for Slim and Talent. Pendleton roughs up Slim at ringside as we head to commercial. Back from commercial, Slim fights back with an inside trip, a double stomp and an elbow drop for a two count. Talent breaks the Detox Driver and nails Slim with a double arm tornado DDT. Talent knocks the breath out of Slim with a chestbuster, but forgets to hook the tights on the pinfall attempt. Talent signals a throat slash a la Arn Anderson, but Slim takes him down. Both men struggle to their feet as the referee exercises his count. Talent pays for taunting Slim. Slim softens up Talent before slapping on an armbar submission. Talent wriggles to the ropes to force the break. Slim plays to the crowd and runs into the Standing Ovation back suplex variation. Slim kicks out at 2 3/4. Talent rolls through on a victory roll for a near count. Wow, this is good action. Slim nearly scores the victory after his patented top rope inverted DDT, but Pendleton hops on the rope to distract him. Pendleton suffers misfortune and Talent is embarrassed via Detox Driver. This was Talent’s best outing in NWA Anarchy aside from his involvement a good while back.
– We head next to mid ring with “the Master of Ceremonial Disaster” Greg Hunter as he interviews Shadow Jackson. Hunter reflects upon Shadow’s & Mikael Judas’ clean victory over the Devil’s Rejects in a Trick or Treat match at Fright Night 2008. Shadow earned a shot at NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Champion Iceberg at Season’s Beatings 2008. Unfortunately, Shadow will not be alone… one other man will be involved in a three way dance. As Shadow prepares to speak, agent/attorney Jeff G. Bailey with Phil Shatter commands everyone to hold on for a second. Bailey doesn’t believe Shadow could handle the Universal Soldier. Bailey rants and rants and rants as the crowd moans and groans at his madman ramblings. Finally, Bailey is forced to shut up after accusing Shadow of needing help from Judas. Judas’s music blasting throughout the NWA Arena. Poor miscreant peasant, Bailey must be soiling himself in fear. Judas stares into Shatter’s eyes and sees an empty soul. The action breaks down after Judas informs Shatter that the road to Season’s Beatings goes through him. Shatter saves Bailey from a royal flogging, but Judas blasts him with numerous rights. They fight uncontrollably to the locker room. Back to the ring, Hunter has lived up to his reputation of instigating riots. Guess whose proud of him? Shadow Jackson. Only Shadow would be demented enough to enjoy such action. Shadow says he owes the fans a championship and proclaims his first singles gold will be the NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Title.
4. The Devil’s Rejects (“Son of Satan” Azreal & “Sleeper Cell” Shaun Tempers & “the Altar of Human Mutilation and “Professional Wrestling’s Only Serial Killer” and NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Champion Iceberg) w/”the Reverend” Dan Wilson & the Staff of Righteousness defeated Culture Shock (Lane Norris & “Outlaw” Ben Woods) & “Merciless” Don Matthews.
This is Culture Shock’s toughest test since entering NWA Anarchy and they most certainly proved to be worthy competitors and performers tonight. Honestly, they are so much better as Culture Shock than tagging as the Indian Nation. The Rejects focus their assault on Norris and rely on heel tactics to maintain control. Halfway through the match, Wilson distracts the referee to allow Iceberg to consecrate Norris via choking with the Staff of Righteousness. Tempers grabs the Staff and tosses it aside when Iceberg holds Norris. Hunter is left befuddled that Tempers refuses to take the short cut. Norris makes Tempers pay with a dropkick and makes the hot tag to Matthews. Matthews rejects every Reject in existence. Culture Shock makes this a 6 way and disposes of Tempers. Matthews decapitates Azreal with the Lariat of Doom, but the No Pain Train makes a blind tag. Matthews wobbles Iceberg and dims his headlights with the BFK. As Matthews prepares for victory, “Jeff Jarrett Wannabe” Jay Clinton makes an all-star appearance. Iceberg finishes off the distracted Matthews with a belly to belly suplex. Afterwards, the Rejects dump Matthews with Wilson looking displeased at Tempers’ performance.
– After commercial, Wilson orders Tempers back in to the ring to deliver a straightforward tongue thrashing. Wilson can’t figure out Tempers’ failure at capturing the NWA Anarchy TV Title and why he failed to follow the plan. Wilson wonders aloud who calls the shots in the Devil’s Rejects. Tempers failed then and he failed tonight. It seems like Tempers is a failure. d**n, I’ve heard that word “fail” so many times from one of my students that every time I hear the word fail, I want to burst aloud, FAIL~!”. Sigh. With only 15 students combined my students act like they are at home sometimes. Sorry for the sidebar there. Tempers says he doesn’t like Wilson’s tactics. Wilson reminds Tempers that he stabbed through NWA Anarchy’s heart, the Reverend carried him to superstar status and this is how the Sleeper Cell pays him back. Wilson nails Tempers. Wilson fails to phase Tempers and he knocks out Wilson. DOWN GOES THE DRAGON~! DOWN GOES THE DRAGON~! DOWN GOES THE DRAGON~! Azreal & Iceberg launch a heinous assault on Tempers with Wilson knocked out at ringside. Azreal lands a running knee in the corner and Iceberg squashes his former stable mate with a pair of vicious Ground Xero splashes. The carnage ends when NWA Anarchy TV Champion Truitt Fields makes the save and surprises Iceberg with the Killing Fields. Smart finish.

NWA Main Event TV – Episode 43 by Larry Goodman

1 – KYLE MATTHEWS vs. SHANE MATTHEWS (with Charming Charles)
Porter said Kyle was from NWA Anarchy. James said “Superstar Shane” was a regular during Main Event’s TV run in 2003. Kyle was doing the clean, crisp, athletic wrestling moves, while Shane mainly used cheap heel tactics. Off camera, Charles caned Kyle. Shane kept cutting Kyle off. Lots of kids in the crowd of 450 and they were amped for Kyle. Shane took a flying crotch bump on the middle turnbuckle. Kyle fired up with a comeback and went for a frog splash, but Shane maneuvered out of the way and rolled Kyle up using the ropes for extra leverage.
Winner: Shane Matthews in 6:45. Crowd was way hot and Shane was really worked them. Crowd connection has been Kyle’s weak point, but he did a good job here. Both of these guys would be good additions to the roster.
2 – LARRY COOTER & WHITE TIGER vs. LUCKY CHARMS (Chris Cain & Dyron Flynn)
James said Lucky Chams were dominating the tag team bracket (what tag team bracket?) in Main Event. Cain tried to psych out Tiger. Tiger started to fight back and Cain kicked him low. It looked accidental. The faces started working on Cain’s arm. Cooter busted out a corner lariat-bulldog-rolling elbow sequence. Tiger bamboozled Cain with a trio off up-and-over moves. Cain kicked him in the man region on the third one. That did not look accidental. Tiger took heat. Flynn tagged for some slow motion double teams and another rendition of the worst stomp in pro wrestling. Tiger did a spinning headscissors for a hope spot near fall and got cut off by Cain’s powerbomb. Cain is too short for to make that sequence look good. Double lariat and both men down. Cooter not a bad house of fire here. Some stiff chops being traded as they went four way.
Cooter and Tiger scored a double pin with twin sunset flips. A thing of beauty it was not.
Winners: Cooter & Tiger in 8:50. Cain was in almost the entire way, which at least made it passable. The stuff between Cooter and Cain was fine. Flynn has somewhat improved his look. Can’t say the same about his wrestling. Doing a finish that calls for precision timing was asking more than these guys could deliver.
3 – “Malibu” MATT BOYCE vs. “The Prince Polynesian” LANI KEALOHA
The prince was feeling the power early, and Boyce couldn’t cope with it. Boyce did a set of push ups and gave Kealoha a taste of his own. Kealoha bailed. James called it game of anything you can do, I can do better. After using short cuts to win a test of strength, Kealoha tried to stomp Boyce’s fingers. Boyce moved and stomped Kealoha’s bare feet. Kealoha failed on three attempts to stomp Boyce’s feet and got his bare feet stomped again. As stupid as it sounds, Kealoha made it funny. Kealoha took over. He used a headbutt for a near fall and applied the Coconut Crush (a type of head squeeze). Crowd got hot for Boyce to make a comeback, which he did when Kealoha missed on a middle rope diving headbutt. Boyce’s offense just wasn’t smooth at all here. Boyce won it with a flying crossbody off the top.
Winner: Boyce in 7:30. The crowd was into this match, partly because they told a clear story. One that was similar to the Lawler match as things turned out. Boyce is a geeky version of Tommy Rich – platinum blonde but none of the charm or charisma, although the crowd in Portland liked him. I haven’t seen much of Kealoha. He’s obviously a good athlete, and his act was pretty entertaining.
4 — STEVE-O vs. SHANE SMALLS
Smalls kept getting the better of the wrestling exchanges, turning Steve-0 into a whiny, loudmouth brat. O tried to brawl, and Smalls kicking it into high gear with a standing shooting star press and a springboard backflip into a dropkick. O took an extended TO. Smalls chased him back into the ring. O tried to cut him off. Smalls fired back with stiff chops. O shut him down for good with a field goal kick to the nuts. O took over with Smalls fighting up from underneath. A collision of flying clotheslines left both men down. Comeback time. Smalls with a release northern lights suplex for a near fall. Smalls with the climbing kneelift and down goes O. Smalls hit the moonsault. Ferrari was about to count three when Dominique somehow caught his attention. He must have eyes in the back of his head. They argued. Smalls got involved. Dominique tossed knucks to O, who clocked Smalls for the pin.
Winner: Steve-O in 8:30. This match wasn’t supposed to happen. O’s scheduled opponent, Pat Tanaka, was working a double shot and wasn’t going to be able to make it before the ending time dictated by Lawler’s schedule. Yoshi Kwan (Chris Champion) was set to face Smalls and ended up in the hospital. For the wrestling, it turned out to be the best match of the show, though it had less heat than the Boyce match. O is becoming a damn good heel. Smalls did a nice job as the babyface-in-peril. He showed life without doing anything flashy to overshadow O. Not a good finish. Dominique’s run in looked late and the ring positioning was wrong.
5 –JERRY “The King” LAWLER vs. JEFF “The Crippler” DANIELS (with Dominique)
Porter said this match would settle the feud between Lawler and Daniels. He said Daniels never locked up with Lawler in the match they showed last week from Mule Days 2002. The story early was Lawler showing he wasn’t going take any crap from Daniels. Lawler took a couple of bumps, but anything Daniels dished out, Lawler would pay him back double. Crowd really got behind Lawler. There was this great moment where Lawler had Daniels cornered, and Daniels was glancing at the crowd and looking all nervous like a trapped animal. Dominique passed a foreign object to Daniels. They passed it back and forth for a full two minutes before Daniels actually used it, which really whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Daniels clocked Lawler with the unidentified object. Dominique interfered liberally. Commissioner George Gulas had been billed as being there to check Dominique, but Porter said Gulas was at the concession stand eating those two-for-one hot dogs. Daniels took a flying crotch bump on the turnbuckles (same spot as match number 1). Lawler started throwing the short jabs. He then pulled the strap down before decking Daniels with the haymaker. Ref Jamie Ferrari got bumped. Lawler set up for the piledriver. Dominique interfered. As Lawler focused his attention to Dominique, she tossed the object to Daniels, who clocked Lawler. 1..2..Lawler put his foot on the bottom rope. Daniels complained to the ref, and Lawler schoolboyed him for the three count.
Winner: Lawler in 14:05. Match was fine for this crowd. It was typical of the matches Lawler is doing these days. I’ve seen too many of them live to get excited about seeing another one on TV. Daniels added a few extras that gave it a little more pizzazz.
Random Thoughts: The one area that Main Event has the edge on SAW is the ability to deliver with a big match that exceeds the hype (see Daniels/Hayes from Tennessee Homecoming and Smalls/Shultz from Christmas Chaos). With SAW, it’s often been the other way around – the build up turns out to be better than the match. This show didn’t have one of those pleasant surprises. It was an OK house show. As promised, Main Event brought a bonafide legend to a town he hadn’t visited in 30 years and treated him like a star. The match was about what I expected and not much more. The crowd was a great asset on this show. The wrestling was generally decent. They could have used more variety in choice of spots and stories. The finishes weren’t particularly imaginative or well-executed. The best match was one that wasn’t part of the advertised card – Steve-O vs Smalls. I really like the way the Richland Park gym looks on TV. Unfortunately, the picture was on the fuzzy side because they were using a substitute camera. There were some good use of facial expressions, but any subtleties were lost with only the hard camera. It was yet another case where a handheld at ringside would have made the show much more watchable.

“Thorns & Roses”

Last night’s “Thorns & Roses” show was a terrific follow up to NWA Charlotte’s auspicious debut.
The first NWA Charlotte show was heady stuff – a hot packed crowd in a brand new building featuring the top talent in the region.
“Thorns & Roses” couldn’t reproduce that opening night buzz, but in a many ways it was a better show. Hopefully, this show created a different kind of buzz via the element of surprise, the feeling anything could happen and you never know who might show up.
The show drew 600 to the NWA Coliseum. OK, calling it a coliseum is a stretch, but the people running NWA Charlotte are in advertising, so you’ve got expect hyperbole, and it is a great building. My report of 400 for their first show was an underestimate. I’m thinking it was closer to 500. The paid attendance for last night was probably in the same range as the first show because ladies were admitted free. In any case it was another hot crowd. They got the show done in 2:30, so there was no crowd burnout factor whatsoever.
Heather Brocklebank sang the National Anthem. It’s a beautiful way to open a wrestling show when it’s done well as it was here.
They kicked things off with “NWA Rewind”, a video recapping the results from their debut event. It’s touches like this that separate NWA Charlotte from your typical independent show.
J.D. Costello, the president of NWA Charlotte, informed that crowd that Ivan Koloff was physically unable to defend the legends title, now known as the Mid-Atlantic Heritage Title. Jeff Lewis rudely interrupted Costello and started ripped Ivan. Costello told him to shut the hell up. Costello said Nikita was there with a surprise replacement and the belt would be up for grabs. Costello rewarded loudmouth Lewis by moving his match up to first on the card.
(1) New Wave (Derrick Driver & Steven Walters} beat Jeff Lewis & Zack Salvation when Driver pinned Salvation at 7:55. The crowd was popping for New Wave’s offense, as they gave Salvation a whipping. He was there to do the job and take his lumps in a comedic way, and he excelled in that role. Lewis ducked and Driver spilled over the top rope to set up the heat. Driver hit a one-on-two combo and hot-tagged Walters. Solid house cleaning segment with spot on feeding by the heels. Walters ducked a superkick from Lewis, and New Wave sent him packing with a double dropkick. They used the Unskinny Bop as their finisher. Very good opening match.
(2) Kimo (with Jeff G. Bailey) beat Manscount in :48. Kimo’s entrance looked awesome. Manscout has to be the gayest gimmick ever –a guy in a scout uniform except with skimpy tights. Manscout foolishly tried to attack. Kimo destroyed him while referee Ace stood by looking horrified. Bailey told Ace to call for the bell. Kimo dished out more brutality and locked in the Information Extractor for a quick tap out.
NWA National Champion Phil Shatter was interviewed by Lodi. Shatter carries himself like a world champion. They guy is beyond ready for the big time. His contempt for the people got heat. Shatter said he planned to make the NWA Charlotte title another notch on his belt.
Costello introduced Chaotic Agony. Costello said he was behind them despite the critics saying they didn’t belong. He said he rescued them from that horrible promotion in Hendersonville and put them over as common men that the fans could relate to. That brought out Team Ego, two big old boys in black. Abel Adams said Agony were punks that treated pro wrestling like a hobby. That lead to…
(3) Team Ego (Abel Adams & Will Snapp) beat Chaotic Agony (Joey Agony & Ryan Chaos) in 8:43. Early on, Chaos connected with a tornado kick to the mush of Snapp, who appears to have an unfortunate case of man boobs. Snapp gave Agony an Alabama Slam. Team Ego turned Agony into hamburger meat. The crowd did get behind Agony as the huge underdog. Chaos didn’t get much with the hot tag. Adams speared him for the pin. Snapp then left Agony in agony with a Black Hole Slam.
Jay Joyce announced the first of several unadvertised surprises – an inaugural Thorns & Rose Match was up next and it would be Tables, Ladders and Chairs.
(4) Josh Magnum beat Malachi and Caleb Konley in a Thorns & Roses (TLC) Match (12:24). With the exception of a couple of problems with the gimmicks and the inherent contrived spots, this was a very good match because it had quality wrestling, not just TLC spots. Malachi was the lone heels. The faces doubled up on him and tossed him out. Malachi reentered with a chair. He couldn’t get it properly wedged between the ropes and it fell on the floor. He then leveled Magnum with a chairshot to the head. It looked vicious. Thank God, he got his hands up. Magnum was busted open. Malachi pounded the cut. NWA Charlotte doesn’t shy away from a little bloodshed when the situation calls for it. They did a series of impact moves into one of the ladders. At ringside, Konley put Malachi through table number one with a huracanrana off a ladder. Malachi put Konley through table number two with a spinning powerbomb. Magnum made the save at the last split second. Malachi hit a combo move on Magnum and got this crazed expression on his face. He covered and pulled Magnum up at two to get another table. Logic be damned. Magnum nailed Malachi with a cool handspring spin kick and tried to set up the table for the finish, but one of the supports was broken. Magnum audiblized nicely with a 450 from the top of the ladder to score the pin.
Costello put the TLC match over huge, saying all three competitors had earned permanent spots with NWA Charlotte. Costello said the NWA Charlotte title was being renamed the US Title in honor of Jim Crockett. One by one, the five contenders for the US Title – Ryan O’Reilly, Shatter, Truitt Fields, Mikael Judas and Timber joined Costello in the ring. Judas got the biggest pop. He’s here and Brutus Magnus is on PPV. Go figure. As each wrestler tried to get on the mic, the next wrestler’s music would hit to cut them off.
The spotlight zeroed in on an unadvertised sixth competitor standing on top of the entrance structure. It was Raven. He cut a great promo saying the other guys were pretenders and he was the only defender (being a former NWA World Champion). He said not inviting him was a major faux paus and the dynamics had just changed. The whole Raven thing got over great. It really made the most of his starpower.
Nikita was introduced for the legends match. He got a respectable pop. Not as much as I expected probably due to the young age of many fans. Costello said that Nikita doesn’t wrestle any more and introduced the special guest substitute — BABY DOLL. In spandex and heels no less. Nikita gave her a high five. Costello gave her a dozen roses.
(5) Baby Doll (with Nikita Koloff) beat Barbarian (with Jeff G. Bailey) to win the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heritage Title in :47. Barbarian shoved Baby Doll to the mat. The crowd was hating on him. With Nikita providing the distraction, Baby Doll produced a tire iron from the bouquet of flowers and clocked Barbarian with it. While Bailey was complaining to Young, Nikita gave Barbarian the Russian Sickle. Baby Doll covered for the 1-2-3 and the mega pop. Young found the tire iron, but Nikita pointed the finger at Bailey. Barbarian was going nuts about being pinned by a woman. This was an awesome way to make up for the late cancellation by Ivan.
Raven was interviewed by Lodi. They played off their relationship in The Flock from back in WCW. Lodi was so shaken by being in the presence of greatness that Raven asked him if he had Parkinson’s. An entertaining segment, but it was clear a large percentage of the fans were either too young or too new to wrestling to get it.
(6) Awesome Kong beat MsChif (with Daffney) via disqualification for using the green mist as Kong hit the Awesome Bomb. MsChif retained the NWA Women’s World Championship on the DQ at 12:04. Daffney was yet another unadvertised surprise. I liked this match a lot despite the weird psychology. Kong got the bigger pop, as the kids clearly knew her from television. So you had this huge, cold-blooded monster cast as the outnumbered babyface. MsChif couldn’t get anything going against Kong’s massive size advantage. Kong’s chops made a sick thudding sound. Kong squashed MsChif in the corner and applied a camel clutch. Kong was throwing MsChif around like rag doll. MsChif hit a tornado DDT counter, then a huracanrana from the apron to the floor. Kong took over, slamming MsChif on the floor in the “Rockstar” seating area. Daffney got involved. Kong gave MsChif a snap suplex on the ramp and powerbombed Daffney on top of her. The crowd chanted for Kong. Back inside, MsChif sent Kong’s head into the turnbuckle to get the advantage. She gave Kong three double stomps to the back with Kong’s head resting on the bottom turnbuckle. If Kong has a back problem, you wouldn’t have known it from this match. MsChif needed Daffney’s help to haul Kong to the center of the ring so she could make a cover. Kong missed with a splash, and MsChif hit a standing moonsault for a near fall. Kong connected with the spinning backfist, but MsChif kicked out of the Implant Buster. Kong hit a chokeslam. Kong brought a chair in and was fixing to brain MsChif with it, but Daffney snatched it away on her backswing. The finish was well executed and about as good as they were going to since it had to be inconclusive.
Joyce explained how the inaugural US Champion would be decided. One man from the starting field of six would be eliminated at each show until the champion was decided on 4/11. Tonight’s match would be a six man tag with the winner of the fall earning a bye on 2/28. The loser would get a chance to get back in the tournament by defeating Larry Zbyszko on 2/28. I love the concept. It sets the top guys apart, they all get the rub from Raven, and in the end, the title is decided the only way it should be, one-on-one.
(7) Raven & Timber & Truitt Fields beat Shatter & Mikael Judas & Ryan O’Reilly in 12:56 when Raven pinned Shatter with the Evenflo. The six made individual entrances to Queen’s “We Are the Champions.” The way the rules were laid out, it made sense for teammates to fully cooperate. Match had the major league feel with everyone getting a chance to shine. Raven looked revitalized. This was my first time seeing Timber in a number of years. I was impressed with how well he gets up and down for such a big, stocky guy. Fields hit the Killing Fields on Shatter, but O’Reilly pulled him out and bashed him into the announcer’s table. As the white meat babyface of the group, it was only right for Fields to take a major beating. At one point, Raven walked into ring and brazenly whacked one of the heels with his kendo stick right in front of the ref. Judas’ offense had some extra zip on it. Fields locked a guillotine choke on O’Reilly and got suplexed
into the turnbuckles for his troubles. Raven took the hot tag and superkick Judas out of the ring as things were breaking down. His first attempt at the Evenflo was blocked. Timber used his barbed wire bat on Shatter to set up the Evenflo.
Raven closed the show by thanking the fans – “Without you people, there would only be one brand of wrestling, and one brand of wrestling isn’t quite enough for me.”
NOTES: The DVD of the 1/24 show will be available at the show on 2/28…All of the women including Kong were available for autographs and photos after the show. They drew quite a crowd. Krissy Vaine was also at the gimmick table. The women’s match got over well. With Team Blondage (Vaine & Amber O’Neal) and Daffney all in the area, doing more women’s matches is a direction they should consider…Damien Wayne was in the house, as were JT Talent and TK Cross from NWA Anarchy…Last night’s show was advertised as a TV Taping. It was a four camera shoot.

NWA Main Event Wrestling regrets that our relationship with the ION Network has ended. We have enjoyed our working relationship for the past 45 weeks.
We have been in negations with another TV outlet for the past several weeks and we are ready to sign the deal. As soon as the contract is finalized, an announcement will be made as to time and channel.
Sometimes we felt that I hands were tied at ION as to what we could show and say on air.
We have a new building that we are doing our TV tapings, the Community Life Center, 413 Veritas St. in Nashville, this tapings will continue every Saturday, belltime is 8 P. M.
We also will begin our monthly shows at the Fairgrounds, our first date will be announced soon. This couple of weeks off will give us an opportunity to change the lighting in the building and put up drapes and even build an entrance way. Also we have ordered new equipment to update what we have and we will have that equipment in place within a few days. We are also upgrading our talent roster with the addition of several new wrestlers,
Details will be announced as they become available.

NWA-SW 11th Anniversary Card Lineup
NWA Southwest (NWA-SW) will deliver its biggest card, talent-wise, since NWA-SW hosted NWA’s 54th Anniversary Show back in October 2002, when it celebrates its 11th Anniversary on March 21, in Livingston, Texas. Commissioner Ken Taylor announced February 10 that the 11th Anniversary will be the most heavily promoted event ever and the entire wrestling world will be aware that a major NWA show is happening in Texas.
The Anniversary Show will also be a Fundraiser benefitting the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Tribe Recreation Department, and will take place right on the Reservation at the Multi-Purpose Center, which can seat up to 2000. The Alabama-Coushatta tribe is one of only three Indian Tribes in Texas and is located just east of Livingston, Texas – an hour drive north of Houston.
NWA-SW was launched on February 27, 1998, in Dallas and has promoted over 400 shows all over the States of Texas and Oklahoma since, and has restored the “Territory” again this past year after a 23 year absence.
This Show will have four NWA title matches and will mark the first time in history that NWA Southwest has presented all three Texas State Titles on the same card, and also the first time where every NWA State Champion (Tedxas and Oklahoma) of NWA-SW is on the same card.
THE SKINNY…….(not in actual order)
NORTH AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH – First NWA North American Heavyweight title match in Texas since 2002. The match will be in the rich tradition of NWA – a 2 out of 3 Falls, 60 minute time-limit -famous practice of yesteryears. Champion Mike Dibiase -of the famous three-generation DiBiase family including brother Ted, Jr, now starring with WWE, versus challenger Kevin Northcutt – former TNA star and 8x Texas Heavyweight Champion. Kevin is the most belted wrestler in NWA-SW since the turn of the century and arguably the most gold anywhere in the NWA to arrive at this opportunity. He has won every other major belt NWA has to offer except North American and World Men’s. His achievements include 8x Texas champion, 2x National champion, 2x World Tag Team champion, and North American Tag Team champion. Kevin also was with WCW before its demise before TNA. Mike is also a former NWA Texas champion, and is currently ranked the #3 contender by NWA to the World title held by Blue Demon, Jr., and he has third longest reign ever as North American champ. This match would be Main Event quality anywhere in the country this year. Could be NWA’s Match of the Year!
COWBOYS & INDIANS – (I Fall, 30 minute time limit) Former WWE star and now major NWA TV and Touring Superstar – Lance Cade – who won 3 WWE World tag Team titles in recent years with partner Trevor Murdoch, makes his NWA-SW debut against current NWA Wisconsin star – Tejas – the genuine article who actually lives on a reservation in Wisconsin now, and one of the most successful Native American wrestlers today winning a lot of NWA Gold since 2000. He is the only wrestler in NWA-SW history to ever hold these three belts – Texas Heavyweight, Texas Tag Team (2x), and North American Team with Tim Warcloud in 2005. He has also held the NWA Wisconsin Tag Team and NWA Mid-South Tag Team title out of Tennessee. Tejas was also booked several times on RAW appearing on TV once. Cade made his mark with WWE and now making new waves with NWA, and wants to seriously compete for the Texas Heavyweight title and said beating a former champ is the first step in that direction.
TEXAS JUNIOR TITLE MATCH – ( I Fall, 30 minute time limit) 2x Champion Galan Ramirez, and also 2-time Texas Tag champion) versus 2x former champion and challenger Cody Jones. Jones is a second generation wrestler – the son of legend Tom Jones. Bar none, these two two are recognized throughout the entire Southwest among Top 10 Juniors. They are both 2x champions as Ramirez pinned Jones in January so this is Jones’ time-honored rematch. Both of these juniors have bright futures that could lead to a NWA Junior World title. The winner of this match will move a step closer
TEXAS TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH – (I Fall, 30 minute time limit). Champion is HIGH SOCIETY ( Prince Al Farat & Thomas Trump). They’re the first ever dual Tag champions as also hold the NWA Oklahoma tag team belts as well. These cagey, wiley veterans will defend against former Texas Tag champs and challengers TEAM TEXAS -consisting of former WWE developmental star Mr. Destiny and another second generation wrestler, Chaz Taylor, son of legend Tugboat Taylor, and also a 3x Texas Heavyweight champion.
WILD CARD MATCH – (I Fall, 30 minute time limit). Ky-ote – #1 hottest junior wrestler in the State of Oklahoma and #3 NWA-SW contender overall, is a Native American, and believed by many to be a future NWA World Junior champion. He faces one of the most entertaining and controversial wrestlers in Texas – Gabe The Babe. Both see this match as stepping stones to NWA Texas titles this year so should be a “barnburner” with each trying to take out the other on this big stage.. Gabe is recognized throughout Texas as a talent with a great entertainment gimmick that equally compliments mat skills. Could be scientific style thriller – this one.
TEXAS HEAVYWEIGHT MATCH – (I Fall, 30 minute time limit). FIRST EVER SHOWDOWN OF STATE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONS – TEXAS vs. OK. Texas Champion Michael Faith, who is making a name for himself as in Japan and called “The Largeador” for his surprising mobility and agility for a big man defends his strap against NWA Oklahoma champion Spoiler 2000, who wrestles in the same style as the original Spoiler. Lots at stake here…..if Faith defends, he positions himself as a serious contender for either a National or North American title shot by defeating another NWA State Champion. For Spoiler 2000, a win, he becomes the first masked NWA wrestler to be TX champ since 1986, first dual State Champion ever, and also becomes a serious contender for National or North American title shot. Both have a lot to gain with a win on this big platform.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and Show starts at 7. Tickets will be $10 at the door and advance tickets, which will go on sale in a few weeks, will be only $7.00.

The build up to Sumo Hall is now over with a packed house in Toyohashi today ending the run of shows leading in on what has been a tour of “roaring business” according to the latest NJ article at Kami Pro, with excellent (real) ticket sales and big profits. Along with Makabe pinning Choshu in a six man tag, old favourite El Samurai also made a special appearance today, his first on the main New Japan brand since leaving the company for what was then Muga World. He teamed with fellow veteran AKIRA against the gaijin force of Bernard & Anderson, Samurai falling to Anderson’s Gun Stun. The Wataru Inoue vs. Tomohiro Ishii feud that has raged on throughout the tour has led to Wataru demanding an early conclusion. As such, New Japan is considering having them face each other in the opening round of this year’s New Japan Cup next month.

BT Gunn & Lionheart defeated NWA Scottish Heavyweight Champion Adam Shame & The Pryor
Early in the night we saw the ‘Hall of Shame’ ceremony where Shame awarded himself and former SWA Stars a place in the now infamous and completely original ‘Hall of Shame’. Lionheart, and BT Gunn, however found his self loving victory speech too much to handle and the match was made for later in the night.
With Gunn and Lionheart fighting amongst themselves as they both considered themselves the number one contender, they were still able to pull themselves together as a team and ended up on the winning end of the match. They also gained a shock to the system when they realised they’d wrongly assumed Charles Boddington would be his partner only to find out the only thing Bodders and Shamers true partner was their hair style.
Things went sour for Shame, who had dominated with the Pryor, when Conscience’s music played. With The Pryors old mind cames coming back to haunt him, he bailed and left Adam alone to be pinned by Gunn.
Chris Renfrew defeated Red Lightning to retain the Laird of the Ring Championship
In the main event of the night we saw these two local stars beat seven shades out of each other. Red put up an amazing fight, but in the end the bad tempered champ charged his way to victory, retaining his title.
