When I attended the RAW and Smackdown shows in early 2009 they held the events at the Manchester Evening News Arena.
Rather than stating that they were in Manchester, WWE felt the need to state that they were in the “United Kingdom” on all their video packages throughout the show and kept showing us the London Eye and Big Ben. The crowd was heated the say the least.
Now I have spoken about this situation before many times to American people and they didn’t see such a big deal with it. I received the comments of “Well, whenever you think of the UK all you think of is London anyways!”
Now if you bare with me a little on this one… I will have to use mathematics to explain how frustrating this is. The distance between Manchester and London is near 200 Miles.
Now… Wrestlemania 25 was held in Houston, Texas. If the WWE kept putting pictures up during the event which consisted of landmarks and monuments from places in San Antonio then don’t you think that the residents of Houston might have been a bit annoyed?
Now I know the United Kingdom is not as big as America but it isn’t as small as one American I knew thought it was. This man thought it was possible to get from where he was (Edinburgh, Scotland) to Wembley Stadium (London, England) in less than an hour. Just in case you are wondering, the distance between those 2 locations is nearly 400 miles.
Now I have to say that they improved this year when they went to Sheffield, England. They did show a Ferris Wheel, which was actually in Sheffield.
Does this mean WWE have learnt from their mistakes? Do the WWE do this in the USA? Do you think that this is an honest mistake or do you feel that the WWE simply doesn’t care too much?
