This week’s RAW was a “first time ever” Viewers Choice Edition. Umm… no, it wasn’t. It used to be called Taboo Tuesday, then it was Cyber Sunday. The concept is cool, but the execution is always lackluster. The fans get to choose the matches and stipulations… out of three choices picked by WWE so they can still control the storylines. At least the pay-per-views were serious mannered and somewhat entertaining; RAW was crap for over two and a half hours. One thing saved the show from being a complete waste of time, but we’ll get to that later.
What the hell were the writers thinking anyway? The Unified Tag Team Champions, The Hart Dynasty, could face the Usos, who they are just starting a feud with, or The Dudebusters, who could use the exposure and would have put on a good match. No, we get Khali and Hornswoggle instead. The match was a joke and was only used to further the feud between the Harts and the Usos, but it could have been much, much better. How about having the Dudebusters put on a good match and joining in on the postmatch beatdown. It would have made the Harts look strong when they won, and made the Usos look stronger and gotten them more heat. How about not including Khali and Hornswoggle at all, since fans were basically spamming votes for them to see if the voting was legit. Curt Hawkins and Vance Archer could have been a choice instead of making it a joke. Hawkins and Archer could have continued to make their impression on Teddy Long, and helped another brands feud at the same time. They attacked MVP last week on Smackdown, and attacking or nearly beating the Harts could have helped them get over with the crowd even more. Nope, that was the first of many surprises for the evening.
Santino was booked in a match with Kozlov and the fans voted them into a dance off. They could have had a wrestling match, an arm wrestling match, or the dance off. Yea it was good for a cheap laugh, but the angle was supposed to be about Santino recruiting Kozlov to be his partner. Instead, we got no wrestling, a Russian doing the robot, and no answers. RAW writers must read this column because every week I say someone is moving up on the ladder, the next week something like this happens.
