Mustafa Ali’s impact in TNA Wrestling goes beyond what fans see on TV. Along with being one of the company’s top stars, a new backstage report says he has been helping younger talent grow and even aids in talent scouting for the company.
Ali recently lost the TNA International Championship to Jason Hotch in a surprise result on TNA iMPACT!. But according to a new report, that title loss may have been part of Ali’s bigger goal of helping Hotch become a star.
Mustafa Ali is reportedly helping build TNA’s future
According to Fightful Select, Mustafa Ali has earned a lot of respect backstage for helping newer wrestlers get noticed. The report says Ali strongly supported Jason Hotch and wanted him to move up the card.
Fightful reported:
“Mustafa Ali was credited with making a big push to help get newer guys established, specifically wanting to help Hotch step up his spot in the company. In addition, Sean Ross Sapp was told Ali has been informally scouting talent while on the indies and recommending names to TNA.”
Besides mentoring people already on the roster, Ali has reportedly been watching indie wrestling and suggesting wrestlers he believes deserve a chance in TNA. That makes him more than just an in-ring performer.
Ali’s support for Hotch eventually led to one of the biggest moments of Hotch’s career. On the July 30, 2026 episode of TNA iMPACT!, Hotch defeated Ali to win the TNA International Championship. It was the first major singles title of his career.
The match came together after Ali let the TNA locker room vote for his next challenger. He expected the vote to be a joke, but instead, the locker room picked his own Order 4 teammate. Ali tried to convince Hotch not to take the match, but Hotch decided to go for it.
While Mustafa Ali’s TV character didn’t want to lose his title, the backstage story appears very different. Reports suggest Ali has been working hard to help create new stars and strengthen TNA’s roster for the future.
