CM Punk says he would never put his body through this grueling WWE match again.
The Interim WWE Women’s Champion will be decided in a five-way ladder match on SummerSlam Night 2. Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Chelsea Green, Charlotte Flair, and either Giulia or Lash Legend will compete for the title.
The upcoming episode of WWE SmackDown on Friday will decide the final participant for the ladder match. Giulia faces Lash Legend in a qualifying match. Lash learned she would be competing for the final spot moments after last week’s episode of the blue brand went off the air.
CM Punk discusses the punishing WWE match stipulation he hopes to avoid
Ahead of the premium live event, ESPN’s Get Up host Mike Greenberg asked CM Punk whether he had ever competed in a ladder match. While Punk confirmed that he has, he made it clear he has no interest in stepping into one again.
“Unfortunately, I have. I would like to now knock on wood and say I’ll never be in a ladder match again as long as my career continues. Those are career shorteners; those are car crashes. Those are super dangerous. You can anticipate what your opponent’s going to do. You can never anticipate what a ladder’s going to do. So, anytime you have a match that surrounds furniture, it’s really dangerous. I hope none of those ladies get hurt. Best of luck to them all.”
The “Best in the World” has a major challenge of his own at SummerSlam Night 1. He is gearing up to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes.
WrestleZone will have live coverage of SummerSlam across both nights.
