The announcement of John Laurinaitis’ appearance at WrestleCon later this month has faced heavy criticism from fans.
WrestleCon had announced former WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis for its upcoming convention in Minneapolis. The event will take place at the Hilton Minneapolis from Friday, July 31, to Sunday, August 2, during SummerSlam weekend.
However, the announcement drew significant criticism from wrestling fans over Laurinaitis’ involvement in Janel Grant’s federal lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE. WrestleCon has since deleted the original post on X/Twitter. However, it’s unclear whether his appearance was canceled due to negative reactions, as it occurred in 2023.
“There’s simply no way you read the same court documents I read and thought this was acceptable,” a fan replied.
“Wrestling treats it’s female demographic the absolute f*****g worst even in other sports men will at the very least be heavily shamed by the public but in wrestling you can violate a woman and it’s just another f*****g tuesday because peers and fans will blindly support you,” another fan wrote.
“Imagine choosing to promote your show with Johnny Ace in 2026,” another fan said.
However, it’s worth noting that WrestleCon wasn’t bringing in John Laurinaitis directly for the convention. He was represented by Signed By Superstars, an autograph/memorabilia company. It’s owned by Rob Feinstein, the founder of ROH, who is also infamous for owning RF Video and a 2004 scandal involving online solicitation of a minor. He did not face any criminal charges.
After Janel Grant dropped him as a defendant in her lawsuit, John Laurinaitis started making public appearances earlier this year. He was also accused of using AI to inflate his success at a convention back in March.
