Former WWE Star Reveals Backstage Support During Online Feud With Kenny Omega

A past online rivalry has resurfaced in conversation, as former WWE star Donovan Dijak opened up about the reaction behind the scenes during his heated exchanges with Kenny Omega.

The back-and-forth dates back to 2019, but the latest comments suggest the story didn’t just play out on social media.

Sometimes, the loudest reactions happen away from the spotlight — and in this case, the Performance Center had its own ringside seat.

Donovan Dijak details WWE NXT backstage reaction to Kenny Omega feud

Speaking on Fightful’s In The Weeds, Dijak recalled the atmosphere at WWE’s Performance Center during the height of the exchange.

According to him, several coaches backed his decision to respond publicly.

“A handful of coaches at the PC said that they liked that I was sticking up for us,” Dijak explained, noting that his reaction came from defending the NXT locker room. The tension stemmed from Omega’s comments at the time, which suggested NXT talent would fall lower on the card in AEW.

Dijak admitted the situation was charged, adding, “It was a very volatile time,” while acknowledging that he may have reacted to Omega’s remarks without the full context. Still, he didn’t shy away from firing back, turning the online debate into a headline moment during the Wednesday Night War era.

Despite the friction, Dijak made it clear there’s no lasting animosity. “I’ve been on record many, many times saying that I think Kenny Omega is one of the best wrestlers in the world. I can’t say that enough,” he said. He also noted, “I doubt he took it personally… I’ve never spoken to him since.”

Looking back, Dijak pointed out how the landscape has shifted. “Ironically, now, pretty much everybody on the roster… has been on AEW at some point,” he said, highlighting how time has blurred those once-clear battle lines.

Dijak, who left WWE in 2024, remains active across multiple promotions. As for his past war of words with Omega, it now reads less like a grudge match and more like a snapshot of a different era — one where even tweets could feel like finishing moves.
