Multiple WWE stars have reportedly agreed to decreased salaries.
Last week, former WWE Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods left WWE after reportedly turning down restructured contracts that would have seen a decrease in their pay. Since then, additional reports indicated that other WWE talents have been approached about pay cuts. According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio, some talent actually accepted the new terms.
“I’ve been told there were several people who were asked to take pay cuts and they took them,” Alvarez said (H/T WrestlingNewsCo). “I don’t know how many. I don’t know who. Obviously, the New Day was asked, and they did not want to renegotiate, and so they got their release. Apparently, there were some others who did end up renegotiating, and probably as time goes on, there will be more of these. In fact, there definitely will be.”
On Monday, PWInsider reported that WWE officials asked a “pretty majorly pushed talent” to take a 50% cut in their pay, which the talent then allegedly agreed to do. The identity of that star was not disclosed.
These reported contract renegotiations come on the heels of more than two dozen departures from WWE, which included main roster names like Kairi Sane, Alba Fyre, and the entire Wyatt Sicks stable. Developmental talents such as former NXT Tag Team Champion Andre Chase, Tyra Mae Steele, and Luca Crusifino were also amongst the latest wave of releases.
