Tony Khan Announces Samoa Joe’s In-Ring Return Ahead of AEW Dynamite

Tony Khan has shared a big last-minute update before this week’s AEW Dynamite. Former champion Samoa Joe is now medically cleared and ready to make his return.

This is great news for AEW, especially as the company builds toward AEW Double or Nothing. Joe’s return adds more to an already packed show and gives fans something big to look forward to.

Tony Khan confirms Samoa Joe is cleared to compete

Joe has been out since mid-January 2026 after being placed on concussion protocol following his January 21 match, in which he defeated Mike Bailey. While it wasn’t clear exactly when he got injured, his absence was definitely felt.

During his time away, Joe didn’t say much but did tell fans a couple of months ago that he would return “sooner than later.” Now, he is finally back.

Tony Khan shared the news during his livestream on X. He said, “I got some great news about medical clearance. I found out today that Samoa Joe is cleared to return to the ring. Samoa Joe has been out of action with injury, and the former two-time world champion, the leader of The Opps is back. Samoa Joe will be in action on Wednesday Night Dynamite tonight. I am so excited about that. We’ve got so much great action in the show tonight and it’s gonna be great to get Samoa Joe, the Samoan submission machine back in AEW tonight.”

Joe’s comeback also affects his group, The Opps. While he was gone, Hook stepped up as a leader and even hinted at adding new members. Now that Joe is back, things could change. He is the group’s main figure, so it will be interesting to see whether Hook stays in charge or steps back.
