Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) has addressed speculation about his future in AEW following his AEW World Championship loss on Dynamite, offering a response that was short, sharp — and very much on brand.
The former champion dropped the title to Darby Allin this week, a result that immediately sparked questions about what comes next for one of the company’s most vocal stars.
MJF uses a one-word reply to dismiss the claim about taking time off
Rumors quickly began circulating on social media, including a post from BJ Bethel suggesting MJF was set to begin filming a movie after his loss. The report claimed his name had appeared on schedules and call sheets for months.
MJF didn’t waste time cutting that narrative off at the knees. Replying directly, he wrote simply: “Nope.”
That one-word answer — as blunt as a Dynamite clothesline — effectively shut down the idea that he would be stepping away for Hollywood commitments, at least for now.
The speculation wasn’t without context. MJF’s title reign positioned him as a central figure in AEW. Moreover, past patterns had led fans to believe a break could follow such a major loss. However, his response suggests he isn’t ready to fade to black just yet.
Reports have also indicated that Friedman is expected to remain involved in upcoming AEW programming, with some suggesting he could factor into the main event scene at Double or Nothing. While those details remain unconfirmed, they align with his public dismissal of a hiatus.
Adding another layer, MJF reacted strongly after the loss, calling out AEW President Tony Khan on social media and claiming the result should not stand. He also alleged Darby Allin used a low blow, a claim not supported by the match outcome.
For now, MJF’s message is clear — despite losing the gold, he’s not exiting the picture. If anything, the “Salt of the Earth” appears ready to stir the pot further, proving that even without the title, he’s still very much the main character in his own story.
