Tom Lawlor believes fans have only seen a small glimpse of what Trevor Lee is capable of.
Lawlor recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about some of the standout talent on the MLW roster. One name that Lawlor praised was Trevor Lee, formerly known as WWE star Cameron Grimes. Lawlor believes Lee is the perfect wrestler to represent what MLW has been building with its recent emphasis on Southern ‘rasslin.’
“One person who has come in recently for MLW, [and] I knew he was awesome before. I expected him to be awesome when I saw him, but he was even better than I expected, and that was Trevor Lee,” Lawlor said. “There has been an influx of new people and a lot of really good Southern talent recently in MLW, and I think Trevor Lee really represents that. With MLW relocating its home to Charleston, there has been an emphasis on Southern wrestlers.
“So this is really the first time MLW has gone around the South and put its stamp on it. I don’t know if there is a better guy you could do that with than Trevor Lee. Fans have seen him on the big stage. I’ve watched him since he was in TNA as a young wrestler, and he showed great promise even then. Honestly, I don’t think he has come close to reaching his full potential yet. I think a lot of people feel that way about him, and we are going to see more great things from him.”
Tom Lawlor also sees big things in LaBron Kozone’s future
Lee might have a bit more name recognition, but Tom Lawlor also sees new signee LaBron Kozone making a big splash in MLW.
“He is someone I have had the pleasure and displeasure of being in the ring with. He’s been a fixture of the Southern scene. He has worked in Deadlock Pro, he is also a trainer who has worked with a lot of well-known wrestlers over the past few years, including Je’von Evans. Now that he is getting a shot in MLW on a bigger stage than he has had before, I think a lot of people are going to discover what a talent LaBron Kozone is. He’s big, probably around 240 pounds of really well-built muscle. He can fly, he can wrestle technically, and he is hard-hitting. He looks like a star, and I can’t say enough good things about him.”
Reluctantly, Lawlor also gave Austin Aries his flowers. Lawlor called the former ROH and TNA Champion one of the best wrestlers in the world.
“I hate to end it with this guy, but Austin Aries is unbelievable. He barely wrestled for years, and then he comes back. It is hard to say he did not lose a step. He may not be at the same speed he was 10 years ago,” Lawlor said. “But whatever he may have lost physically, he has more than made up for with his intelligence and his ability to get under the skin of the fans, his opponents, and even me. Austin Aries is, and I hate to say it, one of the best wrestlers in the world. One of the best I have ever seen.”
MLW is live at The Signal in Chattanooga on May 9 for a television taping. More event information can be found here.
