Tensions are rising between MJF and Nic Nemeth after the latter called the AEW star a “C+ version” of The Miz.
Recently, in AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega defeated Swerve Strickland to become the number one contender for the AEW World Championship. After the match, he faced off against the champion MJF in the ring. This led to a title match being set for Dynasty next month. However, the segment doesn’t seem to have hit the mark for Nic Nemeth, who made his opinion known.
Nic Nemeth takes shots at AEW’s MJF with ‘C+ Miz’ comparison
Nic Nemeth spoke about it on Busted Open Radio. He questioned MJF’s promo, saying it didn’t live up to the moment.
The TNA star said this was a big chance for MJF to prove he is more than just a good talker. He added that “the pressure is on Max,” pointing out that Omega will deliver a top-level performance in the ring.
“The pressure is on Max because this is a moment for him to become great. You need to have some semblance that says if your thing is the talking, you better talk my ass into the ring because everyone else is backing it up in the ring,” Nemeth said.
Nemeth also said that AEW needs MJF to be better than a “C+ version” of The Miz. He warned that if MJF doesn’t grow, history might only remember him for his promos and not as a complete performer.
“So if Kenny’s got the wrestling, we need Max to be better than a C+ version of The Miz. We need him to draw us in with his special abilities. Kenny will take care of the wrestling, draw us in with the reason you are the champ right now, and leading AEW.
“Don’t half-ass it, don’t take the low-hanging fruit. Do something big. Get everybody talking about you so they’re not comparing you 10 years down the line, ‘remember when Max got carried to a couple of good matches, and he could talk, so he got us all in there talking about it’” Nemeth added.
MJF didn’t stay quiet. He hit back at Nemeth on X, accusing him of being jealous. He called Nemeth an “overhyped midcarder.” MJF also claimed he is “the most complete professional wrestler in the world.” He also took shots at Nemeth’s past.
Now, what started as criticism has turned into a real rivalry. A match between MJF and Nemeth has been announced for May 1 at a Create A Pro Wrestling event. At the same time, MJF still has to defend his AEW World Championship against Kenny Omega at Dynasty on April 12.
