Dwayne Johnson is set to receive one of the biggest honors in entertainment. Disney has officially announced that he will be receiving the 2026 Disney Legends Award, recognizing his work in films and voice acting.
The ceremony will take place on August 16, 2026, at the Honda Center during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. The event will run from August 14 to 16 and end with the Disney Legends Awards, which celebrate people who have made a massive impact on Disney. Ryan Seacrest will host the show, and it will also stream worldwide on Disney+.
Disney also shared that Johnson is one of 11 people being honored in 2026. The list includes names like Anne Hathaway, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and the Jonas Brothers.

Disney has released an official statement about Johnson, where they have mentioned his journey, his transition from WWE to Hollywood, and how he became one of the highest-grossing actors in the current generation.
“In a career defined by breaking stereotypes, Dwayne Johnson began by rewriting a well-worn cliché. For him, necessity was the mother of reinvention. After a nomadic childhood marked by economic insecurity, Johnson was down to his last $7. At 23, he had just seen his dream of playing professional football slip away. Rather than retreat, Johnson threw himself into the first of a series of bold transformations,” Disney stated.
Johnson had a difficult childhood. Moreover, his dream football career didn’t work out in his early years. After that, he moved into professional wrestling and became one of the biggest stars in WWE. That success helped him move into the movie industry.
“He followed that by expanding into producing film, TV, and digital programming through the resonantly named Seven Bucks Productions. In addition, Johnson wrote a memoir that became a New York Times #1 bestseller and has channeled his other, varied passions into a range of philanthropic and entrepreneurial endeavors,” Disney added.
His work with Disney has been especially important. Johnson voiced Maui in Moana. He later returned in the sequel, which made over $1 billion worldwide, and will play Maui again in the upcoming live-action version. The WWE icon also starred in movies like Jungle Cruise, adding to his powerful connection with Disney.
Outside of Disney, Johnson has acted in more than 40 films, earning over $15 billion at the global box office. He has been part of big franchises like Fast & Furious and Jumanji.
Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said that honoring people like Johnson is important because they help shape Disney’s legacy and connect with audiences around the world.
