Jeff Jarrett Comments on Road Dogg Joining AEW After WWE Exit

Jeff Jarrett has weighed in on the possibility of Road Dogg making the jump to AEW following his recent WWE exit, offering insight that keeps the door open — but not quite kicked down.

Road Dogg, real name Brian James, stepped away from his role as co-lead writer of SmackDown earlier this month.

With his next move unclear, speculation has quickly turned toward AEW, where Jarrett currently works — and where his longtime friend could potentially land.

Jeff Jarrett Reacts To Road Dogg AEW Rumors After WWE Departure

Speaking on his My World podcast, Jarrett didn’t confirm any move but made it clear he wouldn’t rule one out.

“Never say never,” he said, a phrase wrestling fans know often means something is at least on the table — even if it’s not booked yet.

Jarrett further added saying, “Brian, in my opinion, has always had a unique style of creativity that translates to — man, I don’t it’s hard to put into words because he gets … understands the wrestling part, born and raised [in] Bob Armstrong territory days, the nuts and bolts of a match: finishes, comebacks all that kind of basic as far as a match producer.”

Jarrett emphasized that while he doesn’t make hiring decisions, he believes Road Dogg would be valuable anywhere.

He pointed to James’ understanding of the “nuts and bolts” of wrestling, including match structure, finishes, and comebacks — the kind of detail that can turn a good segment into a main event moment.

Beyond that, Jarrett highlighted what he sees as Road Dogg’s biggest strength: connecting with the audience.

He described his ability to build characters and create memorable, even “monetizable,” catchphrases as a key asset. In other words, he knows how to get fans to sing along — and pay along.

Jarrett also noted that James has a busy schedule lined up outside WWE, including convention appearances. That reportedly played a role in his departure, as WWE had denied at least one such request.

While there’s no confirmation that AEW has made a move, reports indicate Road Dogg hasn’t yet heard from company president Tony Khan. For now, the situation remains fluid — a storyline without a finish, but plenty of intrigue.
