AEW’s MVP Says WWE Asked Him To Delay Knee Surgery For Several Months

MVP says WWE took several months to allow him to undergo knee surgery.

Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, current AEW star MVP looked back on his time in WWE and revealed that his role as the on-screen manager of the Hurt Business came as a result of a knee injury he sustained during the pandemic era.

MVP then claimed that WWE asked him to delay his knee surgery for several months so he could continue in his managerial role.

“I fell into the vocal representative part by accident,” MVP said. “I was the full-fledged wrestling member of the previous incarnation of our group, and I hurt my knee, and my wrestling was diminished, but because of my gift of gab, I was still out front, talking up for the guys.”

“Unfortunately, let’s just say it took several months before I was allowed to have my knee fixed,” MVP said. “I was asked to please continue, and I slipped into a managerial role. It was never something that I sought out. But I love it, because it’s extended my career.” [H/T WrestlingNews.co]

Following his exit from WWE in August 2024, MVP made his AEW debut in September, and his former stablemates, Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley, reunited with him in AEW in the following months, re-forming as the Hurt Syndicate.

MVP called out an infamous WWE WrestleMania promo as overtly racist

MVP has made several negative comments about WWE and its management since his exit from the promotion. Speaking on a recent episode of his Marking Out podcast, MVP emphasized the need to eliminate racist characters from modern-day wrestling.

He claimed such characters are not good for wrestlers anymore and cited Triple H’s promo against Booker T heading into WWE WrestleMania 19 as a case of overt racism.

“I think racist characters now, they’re not good for you,” MVP said. “And people know I always go in on Triple H and how I don’t like him or respect him. But if you look at that promo that he cut on Booker T going into WrestleMania, it was this overt racism.

“I don’t know why anybody would, especially in modern times, would want to present their character as an overt racist. I don’t know what that does for you, especially in these modern times in terms of heat, when we all know it’s entertainment. It makes me wonder what motivates you…I don’t know. I just think that that doesn’t go well,” MVP said. [H/T WrestlingInc]
