WWE might have to make a big change for one of SmackDown’s newest Superstars.
Trick Williams was recently called up to the WWE main roster, making his official debut on the December 26 episode of SmackDown as a free agent. One week later, Williams announced that he had officially signed with SmackDown. Williams has been positioned as a heel on the show, but a new report suggests that WWE might have to turn him into a fan favorite.
WrestleVotes Radio (via Fightful Select) reports that Trick Williams’ popularity might force WWE’s hand. It was noted that there is a “strong sentiment” that Trick has resonated with the WWE Universe in such a profound way that they might not be able to ignore it. The outlet noted that there were talks about having him portray a babyface prior to his debut. A reason for deciding to go with the heel presentation was not given, but those talks have started up again due to his continued popularity.
Trick Williams is going to let people talk
During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Trick Williams responded to criticism that he needed Carmelo Hayes to stay relevant in NXT. Williams partnered with Hayes in NXT from 2021 to 2024. Williams dismissed those claims, stating that he remains focused on his goals rather than being upset over online negativity.
“I see a lot of the comments online,” Trick Williams said. “When you hop on your timeline, people are gonna talk. If we care about the craft, you might look. I see negative comments all the time. I see positive comments all the time. But regardless, the sun gonna rise the next day and I gotta get back to work.
“I see it all. But regardless, I had goals, I had dreams, I had a vision before I was teamed up with Melo, after I was with Melo, to achieve. So it doesn’t really matter what anybody says. I ain’t gotten there yet, so I’m gonna keep grinding,” Trick Williams said.
