The February 24 episode of WWE NXT promised four championships on the line, and it didn’t waste time delivering chaos. By the end of the opening contest, the WWE NXT Tag Team Titles had new owners — though not without controversy.
Robert Stone teed up the night from the perch, hyping a stacked card before sending things straight into the tag title bout. Darkstate’s Osiris Griffin and Saquon Shugars entered as defending champions, with The Vanity Project’s Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes — also known as Swipe Right — looking to spoil the reign.
From the opening bell, Darkstate controlled the action. Griffin overpowered Smokes early, flattening him and Baylor in quick succession. Shugars added speed to the power game, and the champions appeared firmly in command, even as the live crowd leaned in their favor despite the heel-versus-heel dynamic.
Swipe Right eventually found their footing, isolating Shugars and cutting the ring in half. Still, Darkstate weathered the storm and nearly retained after a devastating electric chair and dropkick combination — only for Jackson Drake to drape Baylor’s leg on the ropes to break the pin.
That was just the first crack in the foundation.
Tony D’Angelo’s Interference Alters WWE NXT Tag Team Championship Match
With officials distracted, Tony D’Angelo appeared out of nowhere and chokeslammed Shugars onto the apron.
He rolled the champion back inside and tossed an unconscious Baylor on top of him. The referee counted three as Baylor lay draped across Shugars — not exactly a victory lap, more like a victory nap.
Swipe Right left with the gold, ending Darkstate’s reign that began on October 25, 2025. The Vanity Project now holds the NXT Tag Team Titles, and if this finish is any indication, they’ll do whatever it takes to keep them. In NXT, it seems, the right swipe can come with a left hook.
