Pro wrestling fans might be familiar with the creators of the latest God of War video game.
A new God of War game called Sons of Sparta was recently surprise-launched for PlayStation 5. The new game follows a younger Kratos and his brother, Deimos, as they must work together to learn the “true meaning of duty, honor, and brotherhood.”
“Set during the brutal training period Spartan cadets undergo at the Agoge – Kratos, alongside his brother Deimos, must traverse far beyond the home they know into the beautiful yet dangerous region of Laconia that surrounds the familiar walls of Sparta,” reads the official synopsis.
Mega Cat Studios is the developer behind the new God of War game, God of War: Sons of Sparta. Mega Cat worked in conjunction with Santa Monica Studios. The studio also created WrestleQuest in 2023 in conjunction with Skybound Games. WrestleQuest is a pro wrestling RPG (role-playing game) that also saw Jeff Jarrett on board as an official partner and in-game character.
More God of War is coming soon
In addition to the surprise release of Sons of Sparta, Sony also announced that a remake of the original “God of War” trilogy is currently in the works.
The announcement of the new game was initially celebrated. However, it has also been met with criticism, including by David Jaffe, the original God Of War creator. Jaffe said it’s not a “bad game” but questioned why it exists as a God of War game. Other fans were also upset because the co-op mode is locked until you beat the game for the first time.
Two versions of God of War: Sons of Sparta are both available for purchase digitally on the PlayStation Store. The Standard Edition is $29.99 USD / €29.99 / £24.99 / ¥3480. The Digital Deluxe Edition is $39.99 USD / €39.99 / £32.99 / ¥4480.
