CM Punk’s road to WrestleMania 42 hit a familiar speed bump on Monday Night RAW when security escorted his Elimination Chamber opponent, Finn Balor, during a heated segment.
The confrontation took place on the February 9 episode of RAW in Cleveland. Tensions flared once the championship stakes made themselves clear.
The segment began with Michael Cole preparing to interview Punk, fresh off confirmation that he will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
Before Punk could say much, Balor interrupted, voicing frustration over being treated like an afterthought and pointing to his past loss to Reigns during the Bloodline era.
The crowd responded loudly, proving the Bloodline member still knows how to kickstart a reaction.
CM Punk vs. Finn Balor Made Official For Elimination Chamber
RAW General Manager Adam Pearce quickly stepped in, flanked by security, telling Balor his opportunity had passed.
When Punk entered, things escalated from talking points to talking trash. Balor refused to step into the ring without a title match guarantee, daring the champion to put the championship on the line.
Punk didn’t hesitate. He accepted the challenge, making it clear he’d fight Balor anywhere, anytime.
Pearce objected, citing the risk to the champion’s WrestleMania main event against Reigns, but Punk doubled down. He threatened to spend the night chasing Balor if the match didn’t become official. Faced with no clean exit, Pearce relented — and security escorted Balor out moments later.
The match is now set: CM Punk vs. Finn Balor for the World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber on February 28 in Chicago.
Punk framed the decision as legacy-building rather than recklessness. He also took verbal shots at the Royal Rumble winner, reminding everyone where his real target stands.
With WrestleMania looming, Punk now has to survive one more fight before standing across from Roman Reigns.
First Balor, then the Tribal Chief — no shortcuts, no rest holds. For Punk, it’s less about playing it safe and more about proving he’s still straight-edge sharp when the pressure’s turned up.
