Nikki Bella has always been open about her complicated past with John Cena. The WWE star recently shared what it felt like to see her ex-fiancé again at a WWE event years after their breakup.
Bella has previously mentioned that their 2018 breakup was a painful affair especially because it happened so publicly. Reliving that moment on reality TV later felt emotionally exhausting. At the same time, she was still working in WWE, which made things harder since Cena had been such a big part of both her personal and professional life.
Since then, a lot has changed for both of them. Cena married Shay Shariatzadeh in 2020, while Nikki became a mother and later went through a tough divorce with Artem Chigvintsev. With so much time passing, running into each other could have been uncomfortable. But Bella says time has helped her heal, and now there is profound respect between them.

Bella recently talked about a quick backstage reunion during Cena’s retirement tour on Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast. Paul first confessed that he thought it might have been an “awkward” encounter. The former WWE Divas Champion agreed and admitted it did feel a little awkward at first. “I mean, the first time like we hadn’t seen each other in so many years, so it was just like you didn’t know what to expect…So, yeah,” Bella said.
But that feeling didn’t last long. The WWE star shared that meeting Cena’s wife helped make everything feel normal. “And then it was fine. And then it was like normal. And then I got to meet his wife. And I think then after that, actually, then I would talk to them both every time I saw them at TV, and then it was like normal, but of course, the first time for sure,” Bella revealed.
Nikki Bella also responded to rumors online that she skipped Cena’s final match out of bitterness. Bella made it clear she wasn’t invited. Instead, she went to a Philadelphia Flyers game and was seen supporting the Eagles the following day.
