WWE Legend Saw Early Signs Chris Benoit Was Losing His Mind

Late WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper once said he noticed troubling changes in Chris Benoit years before the tragic incident that shocked the wrestling world.

In an old interview with HighSpotsTV, Piper spoke about his 2002 autobiography In the Pit with Piper. During the conversation, he was asked about a chapter in the book that focused on what he described as ‘the sickness’ within the wrestling business.

He said, “Yeah, I’m not sure the question there, but I understand what you’re saying. The sickness is something that actually is being coined now, as I hear sometimes going through the dressing room. And they at least can identify what that is. And you can see it in guys, [I] could see it myself.”

“It’s almost like that thousand-yard stare, the paleness that kind of goes on. The tired over being gone, maybe doing 25, 30 shots in a row. And, you can see him. I just, I love him to death, and I told him about it, Chris Benoit, just two weeks ago. I gave him my numbers, you know.”

“And you see them, they’re just there, they’re not alive, they’re just wandering. They’re out with their families, and it’s the kind of thing they’re lying on the bed and, ‘I got to take a pee,’ and not now, and they just don’t care. And then they start getting confused in the head because of the business they’re in. And, if you’re asking me how that gets started, that is, I just don’t want to be rambling off on you here, man.”

While Piper didn’t claim to have all the answers. However, his comments showed that he believed the warning signs were there long before the tragic incident.
