WWE Trolls Goldberg After Recent Comments About Asuka

WWE celebrated Asuka’s tenure with the company, and appeared to take a subtle dig at Goldberg in the process.

In October 2015, former REINA World Women’s Champion Asuka made her official WWE in-ring debut by defeating Dana Brooke (now known as Ash By Elegance) at NXT TakeOver: Respect. Across the next ten years, she’d enjoy many more victories under the WWE banner as a part of a 914-day undefeated streak and big events.

This week on WWE Raw, WWE honored Asuka with a special video package, highlighting her impressive resume in the company (while also seemingly taking a shot at WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg).

“A decade of domination,” the video package read alongside several clips of “The Empress of Tomorrow.” “914-day undefeated streak. Royal Rumble winner. Money in the Bank winner. Elimination Chamber winner. 4-time tag team champion. 5-time women’s champion. No one is ready for Asuka.”

Fans quickly picked up on the timing of the video package, as it came days after Goldberg took a dig at WWE, and Asuka, whether intentional or not.

Last week, Goldberg reflected on his WCW undefeated streak, which spanned from 1997 until 1998 and allegedly included 173 wins. He notably remarked that “some girl” in WWE had shattered his undefeated streak numbers, with WWE purposely orchestrating it in order to eclipse his record.

“I have nothing against the girl, by any means, but yeah,” Goldberg told Real Talk with Mike Burke (H/T Fightful). “The whole WWE experience…I was part of WCW when we were kicking their ass in the Monday Night Wars. I didn’t know what was going on at the time, I was just on one of the sides. Now, one side dissolves and the other one consumes everything, so they can treat everyone and everything the way they want. I think there is always going to be the bird in their ass that I was part of a company where I was the champion in a very short period of time and we were beating them in the ratings.”

During Asuka’s 900+ day series, she reigned as NXT Women’s Champion before being called up to WWE’s main roster. Her winning ways eventually ended at the hands of Charlotte Flair at WWE WrestleMania 34.
