AEW Dynamite Sixth Anniversary Results:
This week’s episode of Dynamite kicks off with a Young Bucks’ vignette, which saw Nick Jackson lose all of the Young Bucks’ money at the Hard Rock Casino, where tonight’s event is taking place. Thus, they are getting no entrance at all on tonight’s show.
Josh Alexander and the Young Bucks (w/ Don Callis) vs. Kenny Omega and Brodido
- The finish of the match saw Kenny Omega hit Josh Alexander with the One-Winged Angel to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Kenny Omega and Brodido
After the match, Omega and the Young Bucks have a confrontation and tease that something might be settled between the three men. But before anything could happen, Alexander superkicked Omega and attacked him. This brought out Jurassic Express, who took out the Young Bucks and Alexander.
Omega gets in Perry’s face as they have a history that hasn’t been settled. But Perry and Luchasaurus continue their brawl with the Young Bucks instead, to the backstage area.
Omega gets on the microphone and says for six years he’s been here since day one, and he’s seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Omega says he’s happy there are some fans there that have been with them since day one, and he appreciates everyone. Kenny says he’s a better person for everything they’ve been through together. As Omega ends the promo, the lights go out, and when they come back on, Andrade El Idolo is in the ring, and he takes out Omega before joining the Don Callis Family.
Grade: A+
This match freaking ruled and is a perfect example of why I love the in-ring action this company delivers. The six men worked their asses off and really put on an incredible match for the crowd to kick off tonight’s show in a great way. Then we get the aftermath of the match, leading to the shocking return of Andrade!? I loved all of it! You couldn’t have started this show better, in my humble opinion.
We get a video package recapping the last six years of Dynamite moments.
Mark Briscoe believes he taught MJF a lesson
We hear from Mark Briscoe backstage. Briscoe puts over the sixth anniversary of Dynamite and says it’s time for celebration and reflection. Briscoe says for the better part of the past six months, his life has been consumed with MJF.
Mark Briscoe says after everything they’ve been through, he knows that MJF is all talk. Briscoe says he proved to MJF at All Out that his words have consequences. Briscoe mentions the only reason he isn’t getting a TNT Title shot is because of Friedman, but unlike him, he’s not selfish, and he’ll be happy when Orange Cassidy succeeds and becomes TNT Champion tonight. Mark ends it by basically saying happy anniversary.
TNT Championship: Kyle Fletcher (c) (w/ Don Callis) vs. Orange Cassidy
- The finish of the match saw “Hologram” come out and attack Orange Cassidy, leading to Kyle Fletcher hitting Cassidy with a top rope brainbuster to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: And still TNT Champion, Kyle Fletcher
After the match, Fletcher and “Hologram” continue to attack Cassidy until the Conglomeration hits the ring to chase them off. The Don Callis Family gets together on stage, and “Hologram” reveals himself to be CLON.
Grade: A-
This was a very good match. Despite how over Cassidy is, I never expected him to win. The finish utilizing CLON now, with Hologram sidelined, is pretty much perfect timing. Although I’m not sure how much bigger the Don Callis Family can get at this point.
Say hello to your puppet CEO!
Renee Paquette is backstage with TBS Champion Mercedes Moné. It was brought up that she’s 16 days away from being the longest reigning TBS Champion of all time. The record is currently held by WWE Superstar Jade Cargill.
Moné says she wants to defend her TBS Championship next week in Jacksonville and says she’s also looking for a partner to go for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles. This brings in Harley Cameron with the Moné Puppet. Moné wasn’t having it and said it’s not happening because when they team up, Harley always loses. The Puppet believes Moné is playing hard to get.
The Death Riders vs. Hangman Page, Samoa Joe, and Powerhouse Hobbs
- The finish of the match saw Hangman Page hit Claudio Castagnoli with the Buckshot Lariat to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Hangman Page, Samoa Joe, and Powerhouse Hobbs
After the match, there is a heated moment between Joe and Page. Joe felt disrespected by Page, and security had to come out to the ring to separate the two men.
Grade: A-
This match was a lot of fun. The surprising tension between Samoa Joe and Hangman Page wasn’t something I was expecting. However, if this is the direction they are heading for WrestleDream later this month, I’m all for it! That will be a great title match on pay-per-view later this month if that’s where they are going.
We get a video package that sees Kevin Knight of JetSpeed challenge a member of FTR this Saturday on Collision. Big Stoke says they accept, but Knight won’t know his opponent until they come out on Saturday.
Hangman Page is backstage with Renee Paquette. Page says he is confused why Samoa Joe is so angry about him trying to hand him the title, and he dropped it. Page says this is all about the fact that Joe mentioned that he’s never beaten him. Hangman says he respects Joe and says he’ll give him a title shot later this month at WrestleDream.
“Timeless” Toni Storm vs. Tay Melo (w/ Anna Jay)
- The finish of the match saw Toni Storm hit Tay Melo with Storm Zero to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: “Timeless” Toni Storm
After the match, Storm gets on the microphone and says that when the bell rang at All Out, she did not hear victory or defeat; she heard nothing. Storm says that nothing was so deep it gobbled her up. Storm puts over Kris Statlander as a glorious champion and questions who she is without the title.
Toni Storm lays out a challenge for Kris Statlander for a rematch. We will see if Statlander accepts her challenge.
Grade: B+
This was a fun matchup. We haven’t seen a lot from Tay Melo in terms of singles action lately, so it was nice to see her get in the ring with Toni Storm. I enjoyed this match, but the finish was never in doubt for a moment.
Renee Paquette is backstage with Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs. Samoa Joe accepts Hangman Page’s challenge and says he’s been so preoccupied with the Death Riders that it’s time for him to remind everyone who he is.
GOA (w/ Ricochet) vs. The Swirl
- The finish of the match saw GOA hit a double team maneuver on Lee Johnson. Bishop Kaun scored the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: GOA
After the match, Ricochet attacked Blake Christian and hit him with the Spirit Gun. The Hurt Syndicate comes out after and stands on the stage. MVP questions which area codes are in the crowd right, and tells Ricochet they are in his neighborhood right now.
MVP says he embarrassed himself at All Out, and he owes every Hurt Syndicate fan and his associates an apology for losing at the pay-per-view. Porter says he needs to come to the terms with the fact that he’s lost a step, but he knows he can still fight.
MVP challenges them to a no-disqualification street fight on Dynamite next week. Ricochet accepts. The match is official.
Grade: B-
The match was fine. It was basically done just to set up the street fight next week. I don’t have a problem with it, but based on everything else that has been on tonight’s show, it just didn’t feel like it belonged.
Another title match set for WrestleDream
Renee Paquette is backstage with Kris Statlander. Stat says all these years in AEW, and she and Toni Storm have never wrestled one-on-one. Statlander accepts Storm’s challenge for a match at WrestleDream. Harley Cameron comes in and sings briefly as Paquette tries not to break.
They cannot co-exist…
Don Callis is backstage with Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada. Callis says they challenge Brodido to a match next week on Dynamite. Takeshita pretty much makes it clear he doesn’t want to team with Okada, but Okada says they are going to do it. Callis insists it’s going to be great. This is not going to end well for Callis.
Mixed Tornado Tag Match: Darby Allin and Kris Statlander vs. Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir
- The finish of the match saw Darby Allin hit Wheeler Yuta with the Coffin Drop. Allin and Statlander both pinned Yuta to score the pinfall victory.
Winners: Darby Allin and Kris Statlander
Grade: A
After the match, Toni Storm and Kris Statlander have a staredown on the ramp and begin to brawl with one another.
This left Allin alone to get attacked by PAC. Jon Moxley gets on the microphone and says he doesn’t know how he’s gonna do it, but for the first time in his life, he’s going to say he quits. PAC lays out Allin as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
AEW Dynamite Review:
Wow. This was a fantastic show and absolutely worthy of an anniversary show for this company. We got a shocking return. Some great build for WrestleDream later this month and a lot of great in-ring action.
If not for one match kinda dragging the show down a bit, I think this would have been an “A” grade show for me. But I gotta go with an A- due to that. That’s still nothing to be ashamed of. Tonight’s show was excellent, and I think they’ll follow things up strong next week with Title Tuesday as they go head-to-head with NXT and TNA.
Grade: A-
