John Cena Comments On Last Match Announcement

John Cena is ready for his last time.

On Tuesday, WWE announced that John Cena’s final match will headline its next Saturday Night’s Main Event on Saturday, December 13. The event will take place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Cena commented on WWE’s official announcement on social media, referring to the milestone event as his “last dance” and the final stop on his retirement tour.

“One Last Dance. Final Final 12/13/25,” Cena wrote on Twitter/X.

Despite the announcement revealing the venue and location, the identity of John Cena’s final opponent was not revealed.

John Cena does not want to pick his opponent

John Cena recently appeared at FanExpo Boston, where a fan asked who he wanted to face for his last match. Cena said he’s never picked his opponents, and didn’t want to start now. He said that he’ll still give his best effort, no matter who stands across the ring from him in that match.

“That’s a great question, but the answer’s going to be a little tricky. Because I’ve been doing this for 23 years, and I’ve never once chosen my opponents,” Cena said. “I’ve always lived by the philosophy that life will deal you opportunities every single day, and [you] do the best you can every single day with what life gives you. So whoever challenges me for that last one, I’m going to give it my best shot. So, I don’t want to pick an opponent.”

Earlier this year, Gunther was rumored to be in the mix for Cena’s retirement match. However, a recent report revealed that a surprising name emerged as the potential opponent for Cena’s last match.

Cena’s next match is against AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel: Perth on October 11.
