John Cena Implies He’s Booking His WWE Retirement Tour Now

It seems that John Cena is running his WWE retirement tour after getting a match with AJ Styles.

This past weekend, John Cena faced Brock Lesnar at WWE Wrestlepalooza. However, the match turned into a nightmare as Lesnar brutally squashed him. Lesnar delivered multiple F5s, which was reminiscent of their clash at SummerSlam 2014, where he took multiple German suplexes.

Later reports revealed WWE originally planned for Cena to beat Lesnar. Another report from Dave Meltzer noted that Cena chose the ending himself and WWE has no plans for a rematch with Lesnar before Cena retires.

After his match with Lesnar, Cena went on X, formerly known as Twitter, and asked fans to support one last match with AJ Styles before he retires at the end of the year. He wrote, “I do not choose my opponents, but I (even through tough times) ALWAYS listen to the fans.”

The post went viral and within a few hours, Triple H confirmed the match. Cena will face Styles next month at WWE Crown Jewel. In past interviews, Cena said he has never picked his opponents. But with only five appearances left, he’s hinting that he’s now in charge of his retirement tour.

Cena added another subtle message in his usual “up for interpretation” style on Instagram. He shared a picture from the Tom Hanks movie Captain Phillips. The film’s most famous line, “Look at me, I’m the captain now,” is said during the tense ship-hijacking sequence.

By sharing this, Cena implied that after securing his dream match with AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel, he is now the captain of his retirement tour.
