WWE Has Big Plans for Injured Star’s Return — Report

Rey Mysterio is expected to be lined up for huge WWE plans following his return.

Rey Mysterio suffered a groin injury in April, just days before WWE WrestleMania 41. He has been out of action since then. During his time away, the lucha libre legend made occasional appearances at AAA events.

Last week at WWE Worlds Collide in Las Vegas, Rey Mysterio raised the hand of his son, Dominik Mysterio, as promised, after Dirty Dom won the AAA Mega Championship by defeating El Hijo del Vikingo. However, Dom aggressively pushed and pulled his father, insisting that Rey place the title on his waist. Upset but having no choice, Rey complied and handed over the championship.

After being absent from in-ring competition for over five months, Mysterio’s WWE return is expected soon. Reports from WrestleVotes Radio indicate that WWE is planning at least one more co-branded AAA streaming event before the end of the year, likely during Survivor Series weekend in San Diego, California.

WWE plans to feature Rey Mysterio in a major role once he has fully recovered and returned to action. The reports states, “We are told those in WWE want to feature Rey Mysterio in a major role as part of this new, ongoing AAA rollout once he’s back healthy and in action. Mysterio, who underwent surgery back in April, is said to be progressing well.”

“In addition, this is kind of a two-for-one here, sources indicate WWE is considering at least one more AAA streaming event before the end of the year, with speculation pointing to Survivor Series weekend in San Diego now.” [H/T: wrestlingnews.co]

While Rey Mysterio’s exact return date is still unknown, reports suggest that WWE plans to feature him on the show. With signs pointing toward a potential match between father and son for the AAA Mega Championship.
