WWE crowned a new Speed Champion ahead of the May 5 edition of RAW at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Before Raw went live, WWE taped matches for Speed, including a title bout that saw El Grande Americano (Chad Gable) defeat Dragon Lee to win the championship. Americano earned his title shot by beating Alex Shelley in a match that aired on April 30. Lee had held the WWE Speed Championship for 162 days, making him the longest-reigning champion.
He originally captured the title by defeating Andrade on November 15. Since Americano had already secured his spot as the number one contender, the match where he claimed the title will likely appear on WWE’s official X account later this week.
Mark Henry says El Grande Americano (Chad Gable) has WWE World Champion potential
Speaking on PokerScout, Mark Henry addressed the ongoing rivalry between Rey Mysterio and El Grande Americano. Henry didn’t hold back, openly stating that he knows it’s Chad Gable under the mask. Henry went on to praise new WWE Speed champion, saying he believes Gable could become a future World Champion.
“I was just about to say, don’t you mean Chad Gable with a mask on! Stop it, Chad. We know it’s you,” Mark Henry said. “Golly, Chad Gable. Man, you just chaps my ass a little bit. He is such a liar, and he makes you wanna watch him. And when you talk about Chad Gable, I would put him in the top 10 of the most athletic and strongest guys in WWE, pound for pound. Like he’s special, but he is a butthole.
“Oh man. Like, I’m gonna have to change the subject. I feel like I gotta go brush my teeth now, talking about it. I can see him being a world champion, I think that his destiny is just that he will be a world champion one day, I don’t know what his play is or what’s next for him. But I’m sure that WrestleMania will tell us a lot. So we just gotta hang on and wait”
At WWE WrestleMania 41, El Grande Americano was scheduled to face Rey Mysterio. However, Mysterio suffered an injury, and Rey Fenix stepped in as his replacement. Despite the change, Americano secured a win over Fenix.
