Becky Lynch Compares Working On The Indies To A Wacky, Wild Circus That Everyone Was Happy To Be At

Former WWE Women’s World Heavyweight Champion Becky Lynch is a veteran in the world of professional wrestling. She began her career in WWE back in 2013. Prior to her signing with the Wrestling Juggernaut, The Man was competing in the Independent Wrestling scene.

During an interview with Vulture.com, Becky Lynch discussed the differences between the independent circuit and how WWE was back in 2013. Lynch mentioned that everyone was excited to work with one another on the indies. But in WWE, it was more of a competition feel as wrestlers were not filling an empty slot but rather where taking the place of another wrestler.

“It was a shark tank back then. In the indies, it was like this wacky wild circus. Everybody was happy to be there. Everybody was excited to work with one another. There was a little bit of that in WWE, but there was also a sign that said, “You’re not here to fill a spot. You’re here to take a spot.” It was very much about this competition. Then there were all these rules. Women couldn’t hit, you couldn’t punch, and you couldn’t do anything that looked violent. Every day, I was scared of getting fired.”

Becky Lynch never felt her gender would be an issue in wrestling

When The Man began wrestling, she was mostly the only female star competing. There were very few women wrestling in the Indies in Ireland. Lynch shared that she never thought gender would be an issue as she always strived to be the best.

“I don’t think so yet, because I had that confidence of being the best. Not because I was the best, but because for the first three years of my training, I was the only girl in Ireland. But there’s a confidence that comes from being the best. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances are. Sometimes, you have to lie to yourself to give yourself those circumstances,” Becky Lynch said.
