Mark Haskins owes Jay Briscoe for the match they had together in Ring of Honor.
The pair battled at ROH Honor United in 2018. The event took place in England, and Haskins was the hometown boy for the clash. He was only 28-year-old at the time, while facing a man who was already 16 years into his ROH run.
While Jay Briscoe ended up winning the match, it was Haskins who walked about the happier man. This put him more on ROH’s radar, and he became a regular wrestler for the promotion from then on.
Mark Haskins defeated Adam Page to win the International Cup, which earned him a shot at Jay Lethal’s ROH World Championship. While he also lost that fight, he was a regular member of the ROH roster until the pandemic shut down travel globally in early 2020. His last match in the promotion was in 2021, when he returned for a one-off rematch against Jay Lethal in Las Vegas.
Mark Haskins was very thankful for Jay Brisoce in that match. He took to Twitter to discuss the late wrestler, saying that he owed him a lot for the performance the pair gave in England that night.
He revealed that it was that match that convinced ROH to keep booking him. He ended by saying he missed Jay Briscoe. The late former-ROH Champion passed away in a car crash last year, with countless wrestlers paying tribute to him across the world of pro wrestling.
“I owe a LOT to Jay Briscoe. When this match happened,@ringofhonor had seen me a fair few times. It was only after this that they started to take an interest in working with me. Getting Jay’s respect was like a badge of honour. I miss you, bro.”
