A fan creatively referenced Joe Hendry during the Stanley Cup final game 7 match on Monday.
The Scottish wrestler has been on a tear recently. He grew in popularity in TNA, thanks to his parody songs targetting wrestlers like AJ Francis and Matt Cardona. Following that, his campaign to get his entrance theme into the charts ended with him charting in the top ten in the UK for two weeks.
This earned him an appearance in NXT. Joe Hendry got a huge pop when he entered at NXT last week. The fans sang every word of his theme song, despite him never having wrestled in the WWE prior to that show.
His song has become a meme in itself, as shown at the recent Stanley Cup final match between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers.
One Twitter user posted a photo from the event. It showed a fan holding up a sign, showing Panthers player Carter Verhaeghe’s face photoshopped onto Hendry’s. This was accompanied by the words “Say his name and he appears. I believe in Carter Verhaeghe”.
These are the opening words to Joe Hendry’s chart-topping entrance theme, replacing his name with the hockey player. Verhaeghe scored and assisted as the Panthers won the Stanley Cup.
Joe Hendry saw this, and responded with two clap emojis. With news that he is likely to appear on NXT again, Joe Hendry looks to be becoming one of the most popular wrestlers around right now, and could be due for big things in the near future.
