Drew McIntyre had some fun paying homage to The Simpsons during a run-in with Billy Corgan.
NWA owner and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is currently on tour with his band in the United Kingdom. The Pumpkins played in Glasgow on Wednesday night, and McIntyre was also in town ahead of WWE Clash At The Castle in Scotland.
McIntyre posted a clip of him meeting Corgan on Twitter. The post came with the caption, “Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins Drew McIntyre, smiling politely.”
Some took this to speculate that it could mean a working relationship between WWE and Corgan’s NWA might be in the works. However, the caption is a clever callback to Corgan’s appearance on The Simpsons.
Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins appeared on “Homerpalooza,” episode 24 of the seventh season of the long-running animated series.
McIntyre also has a role in the upcoming film The Killer’s Game, which also stars Dave Bautista.
The film is based on the novel The Killer’s Game by Jay Bonansinga. The story focuses on a veteran assassin named Joe Flood (Bautista), who learns he’s been diagnosed with a terminal illness, so he takes a hit out on himself. After taking out the contract on himself, he learns that he was misdiagnosed and his records were accidentally mixed up. He tries to cancel the contract, but can’t, and ends up fighting off the other hitmen coming to kill him.
The Killer’s Game will hit theaters on September 13. Watch the trailer below; McIntyre appears at the 1:30 mark:
