Welcome to our weekly WWE NXT review series where we look back at the biggest hits and misses from the white and gold brand.
This week’s episode was the final pitstop before NXT Battleground. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what went down on the June 4, 2024, episode of NXT.
Hit – Jordynne Grace makes WWE NXT in-ring debut
Jordynne Grace’s NXT arrival confirmed WWE’s working relationship with TNA. The Knockouts World Champion made her WWE NXT in-ring debut this week. Grace took on Stevie Turner in the opening match. She’d go on to win the match.
A short match that featured some big hits from TNA’s Juggernaut. Stevie delivered some offense but ultimately fell to Jordynne. Roxanne Perez confronted her NXT Battleground opponent. The NXT Women’s Champion narrowly avoided Jordynne’s offense ahead of their scheduled match.
Miss – Lash Legend calls it off with Trick Williams
NXT aired a segment between Trick Williams and Lash Legend from the parking lot. Trick told Lash he’d take care of Ethan Page. Lash called off their romance to focus on her six-pack ladder match at Battleground. Trick said he understands and wished her luck.
Trick and Lash’s romance made for some entertaining television. The pair are dating in real life and have great chemistry on camera. That said, if that’s how Shawn Michaels is going to end the romance storyline than that’s not cool at all.
Hit – Women’s summit turns into a brawl on WWE NXT
Booker T introduced the fans to the six-pack ladder match competitors. Michin said she wanted to make history. Jaida Parker interrupted her. Lash Legend hyped herself before being viciously insulted by Miss Parker, who dragged her romance with “Big Trick Willie” causing a brawl.
A solid segment that showcased the mic skills of some of the women. Jaida Parker was the star of the segment with the way she mocked Michin and Lash. The whole brawl set up a six-woman tag team match for the main event.
Miss – Tony D’Angelo vs. Damon Kemp
Tony D’Angelo defended his NXT Heritage Cup against Damon Kemp this week. Tony won the first fall, narrowly survived the second, and picked up the win in the third one. His match against Charlie Dempsey was much better.
Hit – Gallus takes out Oba Femi and Wes Lee
Gallus got promo time on WWE NXT this week. The trio berated the fans for appreciating the art of professional wrestling. Oba Femi showed up and told Joe Coffey he’d still be the NXT North American Champion after NXT Battleground. Wes Lee came from the crowd before Gallus jumped Femi. Wes tried to stop them but he and Femi fell to Gallus.
I’ve been a fan of Gallus for quite some time. Even their promos are intense just like their in-ring work. Coffey may not be going over this Sunday, but he got his moment by taking out both Oba and Wes during the three-on-two assault. I really hope this match lives up to the hype NXT has built around it.
Miss – Six-woman tag team match
Michin, Jaida Parker and Sol Ruca took on Kelani Jordan, Lash Legend and Fallon Henley in the final match of the night. Several team members attacked each other during the match. Ruca picked up the win following a Sol Snatcher to Lash Legend.
The in-ring action was okay, but I found the some spots quite annoying like Kelani Jordan’s plea with Henley and Lash to stop a tag team attack on Ruca because she’s a babyface and babyfaces are supposed to care for their opponents.
Hit – Ethan Page signs with WWE NXT
Ethan Page and Ava came to the ring in the main event. Page dragged the contract signing until Trick Williams showed up. Trick told Page to sign the contract and face him for the NXT Championship at Battleground.
A good segment that had no physicality because it didn’t need one. Page only signed the contract after Trick agreed to put his title on the line. A smart move from a smart heel. Both men will face each other this Sunday at NXT Battleground.
