A recent report from Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp has shed some light on the backstage reactions to the recent wave of NXT cuts that took place earlier this month.
A report from Sean Ross Sapp notes that Valentina Feroz and Boa both had been struggling with injuries over the past few months, and many NXT stars behind the scenes believed the pair weren’t able to really showcase their talents due to that.
Two of the more surprising cuts that were announced at the beginning of the month were Trey Bearhill and Gable Steveson.
Bearhill’s release seen as a shock to many
According to Fightful, Bearhill’s release was also a shock to many behind closed doors. While it’s unclear exactly why Bearhill was released, the report notes that those at NXT don’t believe it had anything to do with his similarity to Eddy Thorpe, which many began likening him to.
As for Steveson, his release “didn’t surprise” people at NXT, according to Fightful. The release wasn’t attributed to any trouble with the law that Steveson recently had, but instead was more about his “lack of progression” in the ring.
Elsewhere in the report, Fightful noted that WWE’s Drew Gulak will not have his contract picked up when it expires, but the star has not been formally released.
