Adam Copeland thinks Christian Cage is doing his best work right now. However, he also feels like Christian was always capable, but he was held back before.
The former Edge debuted in AEW last year, joining his long-time friend Christian Cage in the promotion. This led to a multi-month program, where the two Canadians battled for the TNT Championship.
It came during a time where Christian was one of the most entertaining heels in AEW. His gimmick of finding wrestlers with dead fathers made him the ultimate heel, that you could not help but hate.
Adam Copeland spoke with Chris Van Vliet recently. He asked about whether Christian Cage was doing the best work of his career, to which the WWE Hall of Famer replied that he thinks so.
He noted that he had a glass ceiling in previous roles, which Copeland says must be frustrating for Christian.
“I think so. That’s only because I feel like he was limited beforehand, you know, throughout the years. I think, again, you keep hitting a glass ceiling and some will break through. But I don’t think it was ever meant for him to break through. And that’s got to be frustrating.”
The pair then laughed about Christian Cage insulting various wrestlers dead fathers during feuds. Adam Copeland thinks it was just a happy accident that the gimmick came to be, and that he was the perfect rival for Cage, given the fact that he never met his dad.
“I think it was a happy accident. I really do. Like so many things that end up working, it just ended up being a happy accident. And then you start to think, ‘Oh well, with this person, it would be that and that and that.’ And like, I am a virgin territory for that. Like, never met my dad. Are you kidding? He’s gonna have a field day with this.”
