Ever since he returned to his ‘Bruiserweight’ gimmick, former WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne has been regularly featured on SmackDown. He is currently competing in the tag team division alongside Tyler Bate as the New Catch Republic. Recently, the Bruiserweight shared who his dream wrestling opponent is.
While speaking to Bill Apter on Sportskeeda’s Wrestle Binge, Pete Dunne mentioned that he had always admired the Phenomenal One AJ Styles.
“I wrestled him recently in a Four Way. But I grew up admiring AJ Styles a lot. I was a big fan of more obviously his independent stuff at that time and that early TNA stuff. We had the wrestling channel back in the UK so… And he was on it a lot. So, he was somebody I looked up a lot,” Pete Dunne said.
Last year, Pete Dunne wrestled AJ Styles in a fatal-four-way match in the United States Championship Invitational. The other stars in the match were Grayson Waller and Santos Escobar. Escobar was the one who managed to pick up the win in that match.
Pete Dunne has become a bit of a softie at least around the house now that he’s a father
Pete Dunne was always known for his hard-hitting fight style. But he seemed to have changed his fighting style a little. While speaking to Ryan Satin on his Out of Character podcast early last year, Dunne mentioned that his daughter has made him turn into a little bit of a softie.
“Things changed on much of my life over the past few years,” he said. “Now I have a daughter who’s about to turn four years old. I have this life in Florida with this young family, so I’m changing as a person too.”
“When I first started doing the ‘Bruiserweight’ stuff and got brought into NXT, I had a chip on my shoulder. I probably was a bit more angry, a bit more moody. I probably didn’t come across that way a little bit more. But as I mature and get older and obviously raising a child, especially a little girl, it definitely softens you up. I think I’m probably quite a lot different to how I’m perceived on TV these days.
“It’s harder to leave, too, now. Before my life was wrestling, and that changes a lot, too. Now I’m wrestling, but it’s for them to provide for them and give them the best life that I can,” he explained. “I’m grateful that I get to do that through the WWE and through wrestling. But yeah, I’m definitely a lot softer, at least in the home life than I used to be. You’ve got to embrace it. I love wrestling, and I always will, but being a dad is a million times better than that, right?”
