Joe Gacy’s injury scare on WWE NXT was legitimate, according to a new report.
On the April 2 episode of WWE NXT, Joe Gacy faced NXT North American Champion Oba Femi. The match came to an abrupt end when Femi slammed Gacy and his head seemingly hit the mat. The referee called off the match, and trainers checked on Gacy. Gacy appeared again later in the show and set up his match with Shawn Spears at NXT Stand & Deliver.
Corey Brennan of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that the injury scare was legitimate. The report notes that there was concern about a potential concussion. Brennan cites sources who noted that Joe Gacy walked to the back under his own power. However, the situation caused a change to NXT.
Brennan writs that the planned finish to the match would have led to Dijak and Josh Briggs being involved in a segment with Femi. However, due to the injury scare, this segment, and Gacy’s brief appearance later in the show, were filmed on short notice.
