Ronda Rousey has a lot to say about her concussion issues, but hasn’t been able to until now.
The former Women’s Champion wrestled her last match in the WWE last year, battling long-time friend Shayna Bazler at Summerslam 2023.
Ronda Rousey left the company soon after, with many assuming she had retired.
However, she has wrestled select matches since then, including appearing in Ring of Honor. Rousey is releasing an autobiography titled Our Fight next month, which will reveal details about her extensive history with concussions.
These concussions span her Judo, MMA and wrestling career. She spoke with Never Before Told about why she hasn’t spoken up about these issues before.
“I think that there is just so much to it that I couldn’t talk about it in the form of an interview or an article, or anything like that. Or else, there would be several filters between my words and people reading it. So much had to do with having so many concussions when I was in Judo, before I even got into MMA. I couldn’t talk about it at all when I was doing MMA, because it would literally put a target on my head and I might not have been allowed to compete any farther.”
“Same thing with WWE. They have a complicated history with their performers getting concussions. It’d be a bad look on them. So I really felt like I couldn’t talk about it at all. So, this long form is the only way I would be able to adequately address it.”
Ronda Rousey Doesn’t Want Return To WWE ‘Shit Show’
Later in the interview, Ronda Rousey revealed she is happy staying away from WWE. She does not want to return to the WWE. Rousey cited the “absolute shit show” that WWE was backstage during her time there.
“Another thing people don’t know… Oh yeah, how much of an absolute shit show it is at the WWE. Because, you know, I don’t have — they can’t hold a sword over my head and, like, hold me hostage with my own career. And I don’t need anything from them and I don’t intend on going back. So I can actually say everything that I think and feel, where everybody else that is still held captive by their organization cannot.”
