Goldberg was never the best wrestler, but he was certainly super over with the crowd in the nineties. The powerhouse ran roughshod through the WCW locker room. He scored some big wins over some of the biggest names in the industry.
Goldberg had a noteworthy career that saw him win multiple world titles in both WCW and WWE. However, this highly successful career saw the Hall of Famer deliver some of the worst matches in the history of this business.
Vs. Bobby Lashley (SummerSlam 2021)
SummerSlam 2021 featured a Match of the Year contender in Seth Rollins versus Edge. It also featured one of the worst matches of the year when Goldberg faced off with Bobby Lashley. The two men collided for the WWE Championship.
Lashley did everything to make Goldberg look good but couldn’t get a decent match out of the Hall of Famer. The Almighty targeted the contender’s knee, which caused the referee to signal for the bell. The post-match angle saw Lashley destroy Goldberg’s son Gage with a Hurt Lock.
Goldberg vs. Scott Steiner vs. Kevin Nash (WCW New Blood Rising 2000)
The penultimate match at New Blood Rising saw Goldberg, Scott Steiner, and Kevin Nash collide in a triple threat match. Nash and Steiner kicked off the action, with Goldberg joining the fray midway through the fight.
The powerhouse hit the nWo co-founder with a chair shot to the head. Fans then saw Goldberg leave the ring to go backstage mid-match. Vince Russo showed up and he repeatedly demanded Goldberg return to the ring.
Nash ended up winning the match with a jackknife powerbomb on Steiner. Did any of that make sense to you?
Vs. Brock Lesnar (WrestleMania XX)
Goldberg versus Brock Lesnar I had an extremely compelling build-up on the road to WrestleMania XX. Fans saw both men trying to destroy each other. Lesnar cost Goldberg the 2004 Royal Rumble match. The Beast Incarnate got his payback when The Man interfered in his WWE Championship match at No Way Out 2004.
Steve Austin’s involvement as the Special Guest Referee heightened the excitement. All hopes were destroyed when Goldberg and Brock Lesnar delivered a disaster of a match. Both men just wanted to get out of the ring without giving it their all. The crowd didn’t get their money’s worth that night, to say the least.
Triple Cage WarGames (WCW Nitro – September 4, 2000)
WCW, in its final years, was simply dreadful. Overbooking, illogical storylines, and lack of build-up made for quite a difficult viewing experience. Amid all the chaos, Vince Russo delivered another blunder with the Triple Cage WarGames match.
Russo’s inexplainable take on the iconic WarGames match featured two teams. The match had the world title on the line as well. The only noteworthy spot came when Goldberg was handcuffed only to break free.
Goldberg vs. The Undertaker (WWE Super ShowDown 2019)
WWE’s lucrative partnership with Saudi Arabia commenced in 2018. The Saudi government secured both Goldberg and The Undertaker for the Super ShowDown PLE the following year. This match looked huge on paper. Unfortunately, the in-ring action turned out to be a disaster.
The WWE Hall of Famer tried his infamous headbutt on the door ritual before the match. He ended up giving himself a concussion. Goldberg explained during an interview with Pat McAfee he had no idea after the headbutt.
Things only got worse for the powerhouse as he suffered another concussion in the match. Goldberg tried to lift Taker for the jackhammer but ended up botching the move. Thankfully, the Phenom emerged out of the match without a serious injury.
