Big Show may be the “World’s Largest Athlete,” but his WrestleMania record isn’t all that big and grand. The real-life Paul Wight worked 10 different WrestleMania events during his time in WWE. Some of these matches involved a title.
Show wasn’t an in-ring technician or a brawler but he could work match thanks to his understanding of in-ring psychology and storytelling. Let’s take a look at some of his best WrestleMania outings.
The WrestleMania 2000 main event
The year 2000 featured some of the greatest PPVs in WWE history. On the other hand, it also featured one of the worst WrestleMania events in company history. Despite being a subpar Mania, it was still one of Big Show’s better matches.
The main event saw Triple H defend his world title against Big Show, The Rock, and Mick Foley.
Vince McMahon could’ve booked Show a lot better than he did in the match. The big man lasted only a few minutes in what was his first and only WrestleMania main event. WWE could’ve just put him and Foley as a separate match on the card.
That way fans would’ve got the solo Rock vs. Triple H match they never got at a WrestleMania.
Vs. John Cena (WrestleMania XX)
John Cena’s rise to the upper mid-card level began at WrestleMania XX. The Dr. of Thuganomics took on Big Show for the United States Championship. This was, by no means, a technical masterpiece.
That being said, it made for a solid viewing experience. Not only did Big Show put over Cena in defeat, he let the superstar hit him with the FU (aka Attitude of Adjustment) for the big win.
Big Show vs. Kane vs. Raven (WrestleMania X-7)
WrestleMania X-7 featured a stacked card with some big names. Big Show, Kane, and Raven worked the event. The trio fought for the Hardcore Championship. This made for a fun match with some brutal spots.
Raven almost got himself run over by a golf cart. All three men battled backstage before they brought the fight to the stage. The Big Red Machine delivered a leg drop from the top of the stage to his opponents for a convincing win.
Vs. Floyd Mayweather (WrestleMania XXIV)
This match is a classic example of why pro wrestling is a soap opera. The insane size and strength difference between Show and Mayweather would make everyone pick the bigger man to win the match. However, that’s where the importance of storyline comes into play.
Mayweather used the No Disqualification stipulation to full advantage. The undefeated boxer made good use of foreign objects to weaken his much larger opponent. The interference from Mayweather’s security sealed the win for “Money.”
Big Show vs. Edge vs. John Cena (WrestleMania XXV)
One of the two world title matches at WrestleMania XXV featured these three men. The trio competed for SmackDown’s World Heavyweight Championship on the grand stage. Edge entered the match as the reigning champion.
The Rated R Superstar tried everything to emerge as the champion. He, however, couldn’t match Show’s strength or Cena’s epic comeback. The Cenation Leader showcased his superhuman strength by lifting both Edge and Show on his shoulders to a huge pop.
