GUNTHER Sets New Record For Combined Days As WWE Intercontinental Champion

GUNTHER sets a new milestone as Intercontinental Champion.

The Ring General has reached 619 (combined) days* as Intercontinental Champion, breaking the mark previously held by Pedro Morales.

GUNTHER eclipsed Honky Tonk Man’s single-reign record of 453 days in September 2023. Now, he’s beaten the combined reign record of Morales. Pedro Morales held the title for two reigns between December 8, 1980 and January 22, 1983, dropping the title to Don Muraco both times he lost the title.

GUNTHER will look to extend his title reign on Monday when he defends the title against Jey Uso on WWE RAW.

A side product of the effort

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with GUNTHER about the dynamic Imperium has, and where he stands in history. The Ring General was asked if there was a match from WrestleMania history that he would like one of his own to be compared with.

GUNTHER doesn’t look at specific ones in that regard, but puts his best effort out in the ring.

“I don’t have any specific matches like that. I feel like the work that I do in the ring stands the test of time because it’s not really modern. It’s modern in a sense, but then it’s not really modern,” he clarified. “I’m not really focused on moments, names. I do the best that I can really do. And I feel like when you do that, you really leave everything you have in the ring, those moments or memorable matches come automatically. They are a side product of the effort.”
