Kilynn King opens up about how she sustained a torn ACL.
Coming off a successful run in 2023, KiLynn King was crowned as TNA‘s “One To Watch” in 2024. Unfortunately, King’s wave of momentum abruptly halted at the start of 2024. Last month, “The Majesty of Pain” revealed that she had sustained a torn ACL that will render her unable to wrestle for nine to ten months. King also noted that she suffered damage to her LCL and MCL. During a recent appearance on Wilde On, King provided further insight into how her injuries came about during a December 17 match against Eli Knight at Mayhem On Mills’ The Glow event.
“December 17th, I was in a wrestling match and I was coming off the second rope and my knee just [moved out of place]. Essentially, it temporarily dislocated and I had to go to the ER like right away,” King said. “You know how us as wrestlers are, like when we get little aches and bruises and matches or things happen, we just tough through it. We just keep going and I’ve always had that mentality in matches.”
“That was the first time in a match where I went ‘Oh no I have [stop].’ I laid there for a good 30 seconds, felt like an eternity, but I laid there and I just held my knee. I went, ‘That was really scary. What just happened?’ I slowly pulled myself up in a corner to try and see what standing felt like, and I could immediately feel like my whole leg was weak. So I just crumbled back down, I said, ‘We’re going home.’ I grabbed him, I pinned him and then it was done.”
MRI Results
After wrapping up her match, King then made her way to a nearby emergency room to have her knee inspected. While doctors initially told her that her knee didn’t look damaged, King knew that the pain was indicative of something serious. As such, King eventually sought out an MRI, which confirmed the severity of her knee injury.
“I’ve done a lot of stupid stuff in that ring, but that was the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced,” King said. “I went to the ER, they said nothing looked damaged, but I kind of just sat there and I went, no, they’re wrong. Verbally out loud to people I was like, ‘Oh it’s just a sprain.. It’s fine,’ but in my head, I knew I’ve never experienced a sensation like that in my knee.”
“About a week or so later, I finally came back to Ohio to stay with my family for a little bit. Then in the process, thank God my sister-in-law is a nurse. She kind of [said] ‘Hey this is what you do. This is where you go.’ I had never had a major injury before, so to me, I was like ‘Where do I start? Where do I go?’ I didn’t know how anything worked, so she helped me tremendously. Then I finally was able to get an MRI and see an ortho and essentially I sprained my LCL, my meniscus is a little tweaked, nothing crazy bad, but the major thing was I tore my ACL.”
Following her diagnosis, King underwent surgery on February 5.
