Jordynne Grace: Losing To Deonna Purrazzo Pushed Me To Be A Better Wrestler

Jordynne Grace isn’t sure she needs to even the odds… but she does have the edge over Deonna Purrazzo right now.

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard recently spoke with Jordynne Grace, who will challenge Trinity for the Knockouts Championship at TNA Hard To Kill. Grace has been on an impressive run since returning to IMPACT in September.

Grace previously lost a title match to Purrazzo at Under Siege in May. The match stipulated that if she lost, she couldn’t challenge for the title again as long as Purrazzo was still champion. Grace went on hiatus earlier this year, but returned at Victory Road and picked up a win over Purrazzo.

Purrazzo previously told WrestleZone that she had a “healthy rivalry” with Grace, who is one of her good friends outside of the ring. Jordynne was asked about that dynamic, and she explained how she trained specifically to avenge the earlier loss.

“I have beat her since then. So I think those losses, they push me to be a better wrestler,” Jordynne Grace explained. “They push you to want that win even more. During my hiatus, I had been training to beat Deonna. That was my goal in coming back, and I think I did just that.”

Not a tit-for-tat thing

She got her win back, but does she feel the need to even the score with Purrazzo?

“That’s a good question. I’m not a hundred percent sure it has to be a tit-for-tat thing, to be honest. I have my accolades and Deonna has hers. I don’t think either one is higher or lower than the other. She was the first ever Iron Woman, I was the first ever Queen of the Mountain. Which one is better? We don’t know, right? They’re kind of one in the same. They’re both firsts and they’re both a really big deal,” Grace explained.

“I don’t think it has to be a tit-for-tat thing. I don’t think there’s an evening of the odds,” she added. “Getting that one win back on her and proving that I can beat her, that’s enough.”

For what it’s worth, Jordynne Grace and Deonna Purrazzo have competed in the same matches five times since Victory Road. Of those tag team and three-way matches, Jordynne has been on the winning side each time.

It has been reported that Deonna Purrazzo will be exploring free agency when her IMPACT contract expires at the end of the year. Jordynne Grace will challenge Trinity for the Knockouts Championship at TNA Hard To Kill on Saturday, January 13 in Las Vegas.
