Sometimes in order to elevate a wrestler or to help them become the top star he or she needs a manager. But at the same time, the manager needs to be extremely talented to help the wrestler achieve stardom.
Some of the most popular managers are Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan, MVP, Paul Bearer, and Don Callis. There are very few women who have taken up the role of a manager and have shined. One such star is Maria Kanellis. She recently gave Paul Heyman all the credit for grooming her into a great manager.
The self-proclaimed First Lady of Professional Wrestling had started her professional wrestling career in WWE as a ring announcer. She then moved on to take up the role of a backstage interviewer. After leaving the Stamford-based promotion for the first time, she made an impact in ROH, IMPACT Wrestling, and many more. While she occasionally wrestled, her main role was managing her husband, Mike Benett, and his tag team partner, Matt Taven. The trio called themselves The Kingdom. They also had a fourth member in ROH and that was none other than Adam Cole.
A fan recently took to Twitter to praise Maria Kanellis and her performance in Ring of Honor. She replied to the fan by crediting The Wiseman for teaching her about being a manager.
“Time, Platform, and a Megaphone makes stars. Or it could be said as @HeymanHustle taught me, highlight the positive and hide the negative. Everyone brings something to the table, tell that truth,” Maria Kanellis tweeted.
Kanellis and the Kingdom are currently signed with AEW and Ring of Honor.
