5 Potential Opponents For MJF In AEW

It is scary and exciting to think how much MJF has accomplished in AEW in just five years. He’s a multi-time Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royal winner. MJF has been the leader of a top faction. He’s has defeated some of the biggest stars in the promotion.

But MJF’s biggest and most important accomplishment is reigning supreme as the undisputed AEW World Champion.

The title reign has been contested by the who’s who in AEW. MJF has beaten everyone who’s dared to step up to him for the world title. His latest victim was the King of Television himself, Samoa Joe, at Dynamite: Grand Slam.

With Joe no longer a threat to MJF’s “reign of terror,” here are five possible opponents who can step up to the challenge.

Adam Page is a former AEW World Champion

Adam Page knows the pressure of being a world champion because of his past history with the AEW World Championship. The Cowboy had an underrated run with the title, which saw him deliver back-to-back classics against Bryan Danielson. He dropped the championship to CM Punk at Double or Nothing 2022 and strayed from the world title path.

A match between Page and MJF with the latter’s world title on the line needs to happen in the near future. The AEW World Champion had teased a potential world title match with “Sensitive Cowboy” (a jab at Page’s backstage heat with CM Punk) in a Twitter post on December 10, 2022.

Page is set to to face Swerve Strickland at AEW WrestleDream. MJF, on the other hand, will defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship alongside Adam Cole against The Righteous (Vincent and Dutch) at the October 1st PPV event.

Miro needs a world title program with MJF

Miro’s first major shot at the AEW World Championship came in AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament finals at Full Gear 2021, where he lost to Bryan Danielson. Since then, he’s mostly been involved in mid-card and tag team feuds.

A program with MJF over the AEW World Championship can possibly reinvigorate the former Bulgarian Brute’s career. Miro should revive the “Real” AEW World Championship on Collision by issuing a challenge for the title. He should win the title and face MJF in a title unification match a a future PPV event.

Perhaps Miro’s “hot and flexible” wife, CJ Perry, could get involved in this potential storyline.

Andrade El Idolo has proven he’s more than capable of working world title feuds

Andrade El Idolo was revealed as a headlining wrestler during the announcement for AEW Collision on May 17, 2023. He’s previously had opportunities at the TNT and Trios Tag Team Championship, but yet to have a full-fledged world title program.

There’s no denying that Andrade is one of the most well-rounded competitors on the AEW roster. He’s never had a bad match on purpose. A program between him and MJF should happen, but most likely won’t.

Claudio Castagnoli

Claudio Castagnoli is another opponent MJF teased a world title program back in December. Being a former world champion himself, Castagnoli knows the stakes that come into play in big money matches.

Castagnoli probably has a rematch clause he’d want to exercise against Eddie Kingston, who beat him for the ROH World Championship at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. In the meantime, he should go for the richest prize in the company.

Jay White is the most protected wrestler in AEW

Jay White’s reputation precedes him. The Switchblade is one of the most accomplished imports in AEW to date. He’s a former IWGP Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion, World Champion, and he’s beaten Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom.

AEW knows the value White brings to the table and they’ve done a great job slowly building him as next threat to the world title holder. He’s arguably the most protected wrestler on the roster today.

It’s only a matter of time before Jay and the rest of the Bullet Club Gold come after MJF and his AEW World Championship.
