The 2023 U.S. Open Grand Slam Tournament started this past month. The tournament came to an end earlier today. Coco Gauff was the one who managed to capture the trophy. She celebrated by holding a WWE Heavyweight Championship.
The United States-born Tennis star is only 19 years old. She became a pro player back in 2018. Throughout her career, she has competed in several Grandslam tournaments in both the Singles and Doubles divisions.
Last year, she reached her first Grand Slam finals in the 2022 French Open tournament. Unfortunately, she suffered defeat back then but this time around she turned things around and picked up her first Grand Slam title.
The 19-year-old’s run in the tournament was interesting. She started as the sixth seeder and lost in the Quarter-finals of the Doubles tournament. She also was unable to cross the first round in the Mixed-doubles tournament as well. But, on the singles side of things, the Tennis star managed to overcome all her obstacles and won the entire tournament. She is currently ranked at number three in the entire world.
Following her win, Gauff shared a tweet posing with the U.S. Open Trophy in one hand and holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on her shoulders.
“(The trophy emoji) with the belt goes hard” – Coco Gauff tweeted.
WWE’s official Twitter account also took note of her tweet and responded by congratulating the 19-year-old Grandslam champion.
This is not the first time an athlete outside of the Stamford-based promotion has celebrated with a WWE title. Multiple stars in the NBA, NFL, and even Cricket have celebrated their biggest wins with a custom-made WWE Championship.
WWE recently partnered with the NFL to make custom Legacy titles for all teams.
